Hi, I am having plusnet fibre installed on the 16th and looking for a good range dual band router. Currently I have a netgear dgnd4000 which is an ADSL/Cable router so I could stick with that but the WiFi range seems to be quite poor especially the 5ghz.

I have read that the Asus RT-n66u and RT-ac68u are very good with excellent range on both 2.4 and 5ghz ....assume better than what I currently own.

Appreciate any advice on this.
thanks

I can agree with the N66U choice, only problem is when running Merlin I can't seem to get the Ping monitors from Thinkbroadband to work, even when allowing responding over WAN.

Strange, aside from that can't fault it.

Works fine here. Both TBB and F8lure. :)

Can check my settings later if you wish, maybe you missed something?

Yeah off the top of my head everything seems fine, but if you wouldn't mind checking your settings I'd appreciate it :D

I've definitely got WAN reponse on, and it worked previously with the SH2, didn't try a ping monitor when it had stock firmware, but it doesn't work with Merlin for me at the mo.

Static IP right?

Ping request from wan on?

Have you got DoS protection on or off?

Thats the only things i can think off looking though the settings....

I'm with plusnet and got a secondhand Zyxel VMG1312-B10

Has been rock solid for months, wifi is better than supplied router and connection has been much more stable, has lots of good features and is VDSL so can get rid of modem and router.

Only downside is 100Mb ports but I have a 1Gb switch connected and only get 40Mb internet so it makes no difference.

Was about £40 from auction (2nd hand but as new)

P.S Just noticed you want Dual Band Wifi - ignore me :(

I am on plusnet fibre and am using the cheaper ASUS N56U - The WiFi range is amazing over my house and it has apparently one of the best throughput speeds available. I am using the custom firmware and it is rock solid. Quite a bit cheaper than the 66U and if you are in a typical house, the extra distance the 66U offers is probably not needed...
