Hi,

Bit of background, ISP is virgin media (vivid 200) and im using their super hub 3 in modem mode for the past year. As of a few days ago my old Asus RT-N56U has slowed my internet speed from 220mb to 90mb.

If I run the the hub 3 in router mode it goes straight to full speed again.

The asus is really old, has it finally started to give up?

it is wired by cat6 Ethernet which is also just over a year old.

has anyone else come across this problem and do you think it's the router?

if I do need a new router what one should I get with a budget of £200 needs to have decent wifi strength as it is located in a cupboard under the stairs.

Thanks

On the N56U, have you tried a factory reset and/or better firmware (Merlin if available, Padavan, whatever's cool with the kids these days)? What's your use case? Do you need complex firewall rules for local servers? Port forwards? DMZ? On router VPN (IKEv2, L2TP/IPSEC, WireGuard, OpenVPN, other)? Anything else? If yes then tell us what so we can better help you. If no, then just put the SH3 into router mode for now and see how you go.

the firmware is it latest version.

Uses are for gaming and running a plex server. I get by on the SH3 ok. it just after a few hours use I 'feel' that it needs rebooting.
Pages take longer to load, games don't feel quite as smooth. May all be in my head.

I'll try a factory restart tomorrow if I can get it to. I only see 1 reset button on the back.
