New router not connecting at 1Gbs

I got a new router today, Edimax BR-6574n to replace an old Buffalo Airstation that had failing wifi.

The Edimax was a real pain to set-up with the VM 255 modem, my mate did it in the end.

It's meant to be a Gigabit modem, my PC has Gigabit LAN and before using a Gb switch it was working fine, but now when I check status it's only at 100mb.

Very disappointed with the router on a whole, Edimax support were no help setting it up either.

Is there some setting I need to change or is this router just useless?

Which bit is not running at Gigabit - the WAN or LAN ports?

When I check the status on my PC for the LAN ports, I can't get to the router at the moment to check the lights on that, don't think it shows in the router config page.

Strange, I disconnected and reconnected at the router and now its at 1Gbps, as is my NAS which I switched on today.
