Hi just got a new router Netgear N150.

Did have a Netgear DG834gV2 which when in the garden I could pick up my wireless fine. But this new one is in the same place as the old one, but signal is very low to none at all when in the garden.

I would have thought newer routers would be better. I have channel set as auto,

anything I can do, am i perhaps missing something? Just find it strange this has less range than the old one.

There was nothing wrong with the old one, Orange just sent me a new one. I decided to use it as the old router was some 5 or so years old

Maybe someone could share some light on it for me. thank you.

it could have chosen a different channel which means you don't get as good a signal...ohh and DG834's have a stronger signal than many newer routers...

Annoying me now. Decided to play a bit of BF2 on the ps3 and its laggy. Takes me back to computer days.

Thinking of putting the old DG834Gv2 back on. Never had lag like this before.

Seriously, technology should get better not worse.

Maybe its just not a good router Orange sent me.

wireless is a srange beast, and having sorted out hundreds and maybe even thousands it's really difficult to diagnose at times. Obviously the adapter in your pc and the router aren't as happy...but usually you CAN make it better. Change channel, experiment with position of router and pc, check to see if anything can be interfering...if it continues and you'd rather go back to your old router then so be it...however, overall, I find that wireless and gaming generally don't mix well....

I also got sent the N150 and the wireless is absolute rubbish. It would frequently drop or not even work at all. In the end I disabled it and used an old cable router I had lying around, removed DHCP and used that as a Wireless Access Point while letting the N150 do NAT DHCP and modem functions. Its not ideal especially as the WAP speed isn't as fast as my internet connection so I don't even get my proper line speed :(
