I just bought a new talk talk dlink router of my friend for cheaps and it does what i want better than I want so quite happy however how do i access its IP..

ive got an i5S so need an app to analyze channel ratio and ssids (there was an app for that on the android tho.. ssidanalyzer i think) but not on iphone.

ive tried 0.1-10 and the default 1.1 too. sky router works jst not talk talk

So the phone is connected to it via wireless and you want to know the router IP? If so, click the " i " next to the wireless SSID on the list and it will show it in there (as router/dns).

Default gateway is usually .0.1 or 1.1 with dlinks.

Maybe reset it with the hard reset button and try connecting again?

i have tried both defaults. the paper says its 1.1 and my iphone although being connected to the talk talk says it actually is 0.1 so... urm? is it acting like a pass through.

router is connected via powerplug, got pc connected on ethernet 1 and plug is on ethernet 2.. if i put the powerplug in the fibre port it blows up and nothing works.. so thats why its on net 2.

From what I understand there is no proper wifi analyzer app available for the iPhone as Apple don't allow apps to have low level access to the hardware (e.g. the wifi card)

You'd be better off using a proper PC to get the router setup, normally for a home router to identify the ip address you should just need to run IPCONFIG, the default gateway will be the router, goto your web browser and type http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (replace xxx with the ip address)

If that fails, you will probably need reset the router back to its default config (usually a little pin hole on the back)

Why are you trying to plug a homeplug into the fibre port of the router? That's port will be on the WAN side of the router

If you had read any of the previous posts you would have known I have tried finding the default gateway.. the talk talk router acts similar to a "pass through" and my default gateway is the same as my sky routers.

So the Talktalk router is set up as a switch (well, wireless switch/AP) and the gateway is actually a fibre modem? Bit confused. Can you connect the PC into the Talktalk router without anything else connected at all and just see what the gateway/DNS address is from that?

You're previous posts gave us little information. How are you trying to use this router? Is it as a wireless/network extension or do you intend to use it as you're main router?

Can you give a full IPCONFIG readout whilst plugged into the Sky router & the talk talk one as from the looks of it you're Sky router & the Talk Talk router could be sitting on a different network mask

What you may need to do is disconnect the talk talk router from the network & then connect a pc to it so it forms a "standalone" network (assuming that DHCP is still active on the talk talk router?)

Once you've done that follow the steps that I posted earlier & you should be able to access the routers web interface

Alright I apologize for the lack of clarification guys... let me explain this in simple terms:

I needed to add wifi access to upstairs of my home so I bought a new router. This router is a talk talk router (D Link model something)..

I basically have my PC upstairs getting ethernet access via homeplugs... and the homeplugs are now plugged into my routers ethernet 2 port.

My PC connects to internet via Ethernet 3 on the router direct into my PC.

So even more basically: real router (downstairs) ----> homeplugs ----> talk talk router -----> PC and wireless devices.

My question is how can I change and configure the SSID broadcased etc if I only receive the default gateway as my main router and not my secondary router.

I am trying to configure it through chrome on the PC.. have tested firefox too! I used an app that scanned WAN devices and saw my DLINK (talk talk) router on 0.5 , and testing that did not work (typed onto PC firefox browser)..

These are screenies of my ipconfig. As you can see default gateway is still 0.1 and therefore my PC is somehow bypassing the talk talk router (when it is connected to it) and is connecting "only" to my sky router (main with ADSL)

http://prntscr.com/2wlpqv

Also tested without homeplug ethernet so that only my pc is actually wired to the talktalk router.. I still get 0.1 as my default gateway.. is there anyway I can reset my ethernet port settings

Default gateway is the default gateway. Default gateway is not simply the switch you've plugged the Ethernet cable into.

is there anyway I can reset my ethernet port settings
Go to Network and Sharing centre then click "change adapter settings". Right click go to properties doubleclick IPV4 and set everything to automatic, click advanced and remove everything. Then OK everything.

You need to disable DHCP on the Talktalk router, which will turn it into the Wireless AP that you want it to be. It will then just pass on traffic through itself back to the main router.

Thanks for all the help guys. Forget I manually added a static internal IP! worked very well however everything set on auto for some reason does not allow internet access, even with manual open dns DNS servers and disabled DHCP..

Two routers is a no no.

Of you want extra wireless, then a wireless access point is what you're after.

If in doubt on windows arp -a in a command prompt and the top entry most of the time will be the router/DHCP device - no idea on Mac what you'd do for that.

Generally routers default IP will be one of:

192.168.0.1
192.168.0.254
192.168.1.1
192.168.1.254
10.0.0.1
10.0.0.2
10.0.1.1

Slightly less usual 172.16.0.1, 172.31.255.254 and even less usual 100.64.0.1 - would be extremely rare.

EDIT: This site seems to have details for a ton of routers http://www.routeripaddress.com/ suprising just from a quick glance how many use almost random IPs within 192.168.x.x :S

I think I'm going to ignore this one...

Used to have 2 routers on my network :S an old dlink that happened to have really good wifi with DHCP disabled and nothing else changed (for some reason that I don't understand to this day it just worked without any bridging setup, etc. was just a plain ADSL router with no supposed ability to route over ethernet for WAN but was routing wifi clients onto the internet fine via the other router) and the DG834 that was connected to the internet with wifi disabled and DHCP enabled.

Its not a setup I'd reccomend however.
