I just bought this router " Belkin 125G DSL Broadband Router with 4 port switch F5D7231UK4 "

Im unable to get this to share my internet connection. I have a server machine with an internal modem that connects and stays online while my laptop and main PC connects through a hub. I wanted this router to do what my hub is doing but im unable to get this running.

i bought this for the wireless so when my wife has our baby i can have the laptop downsairs on a wireless connection.

However as i said above im unable to get this router to allow my pcs to view the net on wireless or standard cables.

Has anyone any idea what im doing worng or has anyone got one of these routers working with a pc that has an internal modem ?

All the instructions refer to using an external adsl modem.

has it got a adsl modem built in? if not how are you connecting this up?

for example are you doing it like this

SERVER >>> ROUTER >> PC 1
>> PC 2
>> WIRELESS PCS?

Server machine with Modem in it >> Router << Laptop and Main Pc connecting into router.

are u using the router as a router or just as ahub with wireless built in

^^ Thats what im trying to do yes so i can use my connection on all my pc's at once.

Anyone any ideas ? Im still stuck on this one.

Im just wondering if this router allows a PC with an internal modem share the connection or do i need an external modem.

you say "modem in it".... are we talking broadband here Or dialup/ISDN?
If so you just gonna be using the router as an access point.

Sorry, my server PC has an internal ADSL modem.

yeah you'll want to plug the router into the ADSL directly and connect everything to it via either the router or the hub(with router attached) and set the router's IP as default gateway for all PCs. Make sure ICS on the server PC is disabled to avoid conflicts if DHCP is at work.

How do i connect the router to my internal adsl modem ?

The router does not have a built in modem so it cannot dial my isp.

If i connected the router to my moden in the pc i will not be able to connect to the adsl line.

I thought it would work like a standard hub.

Server PC connects to the net, all other PCs connect to the 4 ports or wireless connection and use the ICS on my server.

Im all confused :(

PS: My internal modem does not have a wan port.

you can't. you'd have to bridge ADSL and ethernet, which wouls be the same as ICS, so you may aswell just leave it doing ICS through the hub as this is all the router would be doing. You need an ADSL router, OR buy an ethernet ADSL(external) modem. These are not cheap nor widely available.
ADSL users need to have built in modems. To do it as you are, your router would be completely redundant all bar maybe using it as a DHCP server.

I thought it would work like a standard hub.
A router is better, it'll work like a 4 port switch. But you also have a router and OS on it for routing. Which costs you about £40 more than a swith and your not using.
