Hey guys and gals,

Just connecteda new Netgear DG834 ADSL router to my computer inplace of the BT 'toad'. All workes perfectly except all my torrents have stopped downloading, im using ABC to download. Any advice to get em going again would be great. Also im using Kasperski antivirus, incase its got something to do with that because the internet isn't USB any more but on LAN using the new router.

Cheers in advance
Jimbo

You may need to check your port forwarding settings on the router as your torrent software may have a particular port needed to go through e.g. utorrent uses port 57971, it may also be an idea to enable uPNP as that can automatically open ports for you

Nice choice of router Jimbo. Got that one myself about 2 weeks ago. Looks gorgeous eh?

Anyways check out the router admin pages. Check UPnP is enabled. It is here and I didn't do anything with that so I presume it is enabled automatically. You will find the UPnP at the bottom of the left hand column.

Then go to Firewall Rules, about a third of the way down. Under Inbound Services it should say all traffic is blocked always.

You could either unblock it always but this might be risky. Check out your BitTorrent app and find out what port it is using or set one yourself if it lets you.

Then go back to the router and Firewall Rules bit and add a rule allowing either Any (All), Any (TCP), Any (UDP) or if the port number is there under another name use that. Make sure it is Always allow and have it send to LAN Server. I think you want 192.168.0.1 here.

Try these settings out and see if that works. If not then post back here.
