Hello.

Im using a wireless router and im looking at upgrading it. I will change my ISP soon but not yet as its something my mum deals with. Im looking for a new router to replace the one which came with the talktalk package. I have read the first thing you should do is replace the router which comes with your internet package.

Any recommendations and I will consider second hand. £30 maximum.

There's no point replacing a router just for the sake of it. Which router features are currently under-performing?

If your budget is only £30 I'd stick with whatever the ISP has provided and live with its limitations.

Why do you want to replace it?

Wireless connection just seems very rubbish even when im close to the router with no walls etc interfering. I have read a lot that the first thing you should do is upgrade your router from the one given to you from your ISP. My wired desktop is fine even though it did used to disconnect quite a bit.

The laptop seems to cut out (internet) but then works again straight away so it hasn't disconnected from the internet just the router.

I had a tp-link TD-W8961ND as a temp router and it wasn't the best thing in the world. Wireless was ok but the adsl connection had random drop outs for no reason. My older zyxel and new billion 7800n on the same line had no issues.

Hmm. Sometimes I suffer from random dropouts with this talktalk router. It used to cut out reconnect up then cut out straight away. So frustrating when gaming.

The guy only wants £15 for this router so im going to try it and see what its like I think.

The 8961 uses a different chipset compared to the 8960 model even though the 8960 is an older model.i was using this 8960 up untill i upgraded to a n55u afew weeks ago.

I Found the 8960 a good router too, better wireless range than my old dg834gt and a lot better than my crappy sagem
Synchs were about the same on all 3 but I have a crap long line and can only squeeze 3meg :(
