New Ryzen 1600 simple OC - good enough?

Hi,

I have a new 1600 with the stock cooler running on a Gigabyte AB350M with 16GB of Corsair Vengeance LP 3200 RAM. I’d appreciate any comments on the results below.

I’ve bumped the CPU to 3.8GHz, changed the vCore from auto to 1.284v by adding an offset and set the memory to 3066 under XMP. Not made any other changes. I couldn’t get the memory to stick to 3200 - the machine would restart a few times on power up and drop it down to 2133 when it finally booted. Only managed to have it run at 3200 once but it locked up during testing.

The CPU idles at 22C and hits 69C during 15 minutes of Prime95. Oddly it ran at 66C for the last 3 minutes. Not sure why it dropped as everything else remained the same.

From what I’ve seen on the web this seems the be a pretty decent result for minimal effort? Is there anything to bear in mind with having the vCore closer to 1.3?

I plan on leaving things like this for a few days to see how stable it is for normal use. Not sure it’s worth trying to push it much more or not.

I’d have liked to have gotten the RAM running at 3200, but my overclocking experience is limited and I’m not really sure where to start.

Cheers.

That is a pretty fair effort and a lot better than doing it in windows. temps are good enough. The drop in temp after 12 minutes may have been due to the CPU throttling a bit. Not to worry, prime is a heavy load on the CPU. I would not use it further.

If it runs OK with all your software then fine. You may get more on the ram by setting the voltage Vmem at 1.4V or thereabouts. and SOC at 1.1 to 1.15V. Corsair may be harder to get to 3200 though.

Thanks, nkata.

I’ll give the memory a go....

Would vmem be set using the BIOS value DRAM voltage, and SOC the Dynamic VCORE SOC?

Current values from hwinfo are 1.368 and 1.104 with the BIOS set to auto.

Well, I couldn’t manage to get the PC to boot with the memory at 3200, trying out a lot of options around those values you suggested.

It will be staying on 3066, I think. Still, not too shabby with the CPU at 3.8. Overall, I’m prety pleased with how it’s running.
