Samsung has plans to make 32:9 'uberwide' displays, officially called 'double full HD' (DFHD), according to TFTCentral. The panel will be 49-inches wide, with a 3840x1080 resolution. It's basically the equivalent of a pair of 27-inch 1080p displays, built as a single panel. The panel will feature an 1800R curvature, which is far curvier than what we see on 21:9 aspect ratio displays—and the extra curve makes sense given the size of the panel. 60Hz and 144Hz will be available with the option of Freesynd or G-Sync depending on manufacturers choice.

Originally announced last year with production supposed to start last year as well but it looks like it's coming this year. Wonder if it'll be of any use, and any good?

For video/music editing probably an interesting option. Great sim monitor too but I'd definitely go for the 3840x1200 version mentioned and give up a few inches for more usable desktop space. I'm using a 2560x1080 now but really only bought it for gaming though it's not as bad as it might seem on paper for general use.

Meanwhile, at Samsung headquarters:

Tech Guy: Hey boss, I've been seeing on many online forums loads of people are crying out for 1440p ultrawide monitors at faster refresh rates. Maybe we should do something to address that demand?
Boss: They don't want that! What they really want is an even WIDER and BIGGER screen at a lower resolution! Get on it right-away.
Tech Guy: OK... but can we at least ensure they are QC'd properly and don't suffer from excessive back light bleed?
Boss: You're fired!

Only a 1080 Resolution height feels so old......
Over 10 years ago back in 2006 my 24" DELL monitor had a higher vertical Resolution (1920x1200) then that

Who would want a monitor with a crappy 1080 vertical Resolution these days unless there looking for the cheapest monitor they can buy...

Not interested in any other aspect ratio at all, 21.9 is plenty wide enough already and it suits films perfectly.

Just seems like a complete waste of time and resources this and I'm not really sure who or what market it is aimed for.... For sim racing/flight stuff, I suppose it could be the true replacement for eyefinity users but other than that :/

I rather have them focus on improving display panel tech. than investing in aspect ratios that will more than likely be short lived.

I like the idea, It'll be great as a replacement for the 3 screens some people game with.

I'm on an ultrawide but if I was building a sim racing set up this would be a good option.

As long as it's supported?

I previously has a 27" 1920 x 1080 monitor and thanks to vsr/dsr it looked good in games.
Then I moved to a 34" 2560 x 1080 and even though it's just about the same height I did not like it
because I wasn't able to use vsr/dsr as it's not supported on ultrawide resolutions,
I ended up sending it back and going with a 3440 x 1440 resolution.

If this works like an ulrawide then no it's not good enough but if it works with vsr/dsr it'd be okay,
I doubt it will though.
