New 09 Build

Well I need to starting building my new gaming rig soon as my current build is just not keeping up with my requirements :)

So some factors to keep in mind:

I will be using this rig long term so I want it to last :> gaming, multimedia and internet mostly.

Limit £1500

This is what I have set up so far:

So some questions :>

Graphics:
Is the 4870 1GB with DirectX 10.1 better than the 260/216 OC? From what I have read the 260/216 OC was created to beat the 4870 1GB? Is DirectX 10.1 needed?

Hard drives:
Is the raptor worth it for price, size and speed? Is there a better drive than the Samsung F1?

PSU:
Is 1000W overkill? Would the TX 850W version be wiser?

Cooling:
I have no experience at all in cooling fans, is the one I selected a good option?

Also I might be buying a new screen, 20" or 22" around £200 mark any good ones to look at?

Thanks for any feedback ;>

Presume you have mouse/keyboard/speakers/operating system.

If you don't want to spend more then 1500 I'd either change the GFX card or Monitor.

Edit: Can't get the bloody picture smaller. Sorry in advance.

You don't need a 1000w psu a 850w or even less is sufficient.

If you want to keep to budget i would change the psu and drop the velociraptor for

something cheaper and put the money saved to a 4870 X2 or GTX285.

If you can try pick a 280 from anywhere, i would go with that.
Or i would go with a 4870X2 if you were prepared to go ATi.
And i dont know why, but i would just stay away from seagate HD's always seem to break for me.

Finally, with the PSU, how good are you with cable tidying? as that PSU isnt modular

Ok revamped :>

PSU: Yes or no?

Grahpics: EVGA GeForce GTX 285 SCC better option for same price?

Hard drive: Reliable? Fast? Quiet?

Screen: Could I get a better one for the same price?

PSU is fine
GFX is upto you whether you prefer ATI or Nvidia, ATI tend to be better value, NVidia slightly better - at present Id rank them as this 295>4870x2>285>280>4870 1gig>260
HDD is good and yes to all 3, though the green version is quieter
Screen - Id look at 24" personally, this one is very good value for money and only slightly more
Also you should be looking at an aftermarket CPU cooler, you keep missing this off your specs

Thanks for the reply 95thrifles yes I am a Nvidia fan boy :> But still not 100% sure on what to get........

Dell SP2309W 23
Contrast Ratio: 80000:1
Response Time: 2ms

Samsung SM2443BW 24
Response Time: 5ms
Contrast Ratio: 20000:1

Does that matter much?

No, unfortunately when it comes to monitors you cant trust the figures they quote as each company uses their own measuring system, there isnt an industry recognised standard or anything. Contrast ratios in particular are not to be trusted
