would this be a good gaming pc over the next few years?

Nope your better off going with Intel this time round amd just arn't competitive and it pains me to say that. Go with either 25/2600k sandybridge or the 3570, 3770 bridge for a gaming pc.

naa nothing intel, to overpriced, nothing special,
only if your a fan boy, then iguess its alright..... yawn

err... what? Intel have left AMD behind.... I've got an AMD right now (so less of the 'fanboy' comments), and I'm going 2500K next Thursday, simply because they are better....

Don't ask for advice if you're not going to take it

i was an AMD fan due to it been cheaper but 6 months ago i went intel and omg im sooo glad i did its so much faster smoother and everything in between compared to AMD and also changing my sons pc from AMD to intel

For gaming the 8 core is a waste of money. You can get a ivy bridge i5 for that price and as you can see in benchmarks, its blown a away.

Plus your wasting electricity because most games only use 4 cores or less. Therefore, the other wouldent be doing much. Plus, the percore performance cannot match intels.

I am still a AMD fan - its just the 8 core is more of a novilty item.

If you don't want intel then you have a problem on this forum...

Set up works, you considered an SSD for faster load times?

And for gaming you really don't need an 8 core. I'd recommend a 2500k or 3570k for that money. If you want to save money and insist on AMD, you could try a 6 core or even a 4 core

I think you are the one coming across as a fanboy (or a troll). Intel is where the best performance is now and anybody would have to be either a AMD fanboy to spend a similar amount of money for less performance, or too ignorant to read the reviews and realise that AMD have little going for them at the moment.

It's not Intel fanboyism, just cold hard fact!!

As for price, a intel rig would be cheaper than the cpu and board that you picked.

If you shop around you can get a relatively good intel setup quite cheap that will be far better then any amd setup you can buy. I am not an intel fanboy personally dislike them as a company but end of the day i buy whats best for the money i have and there is no amd right now that would give me the value i get going with intel.

Brand loyalty is for idiots and leads funnily enough to another cliche about a fool and his money but it's upto you what you get but maybe next time you could mention brands or makes your not prepared to consider :).

why do they make an i7 then?
and well isnt it worth buying one for future gaming?
and it that the SABERTOOTH Z77

soo the i5
SABERTOOTH Z77
and 8gb of ram...
and that would be a good set up over the next few years?
and this set-up would beat the AMD set-up?
what graphics card would you run with the mobo and cpu?

I7 is for people doing high end professional sort of stuff with audio and video as many of the programs they use will benefit from the extra power. An i5 ivy with a decent z77 board will do you fine for a few years as most games hardly make use of cpu power far more important gamewise is gpu :).

ivy is the latest generation. Highlights over sandy include

smaller die 22nm vs 32nm
supports PCI-e 3.0
improved integrated GPU HD4000 v HD3000 (on the k models)
slight performance increase at stock.
