Right, I've recently moved to a bigger room in my house which has been decorated and i don't want to ruin the walls in this room so my existing (rubbish) 5.1 setup can't go up. I have been looking for a decent 2.1 setup for a while now and i have decided i want to go down the route of an amp and two bookshelf speakers. The speakers i have decided on are the Wharfedale Diamond 9.1

I've had a look at some reviews for these speakers and they seem to be quiet good for what i need them for (music and movies). But if anyone has any other suggestions on what speakers i should look at, please fire away.

Now the part i am stuck on if the amp. The speakers are 6 ohms and can go up to 100 watts each. I want to know which would be a suitable amp for these speakers. Obviously it will only need to be 2 channel but i may want to add a sub at a later date incase the bass on these speakers is not enough.

So any recommendations?

BTW the budget on the amp is around £100-£200.

Thanks

Maybe try and get hold of a C320BEE, which is a very good amp for the money. The C320BEE would pair very well with Wharfedale speakers. I think they've been discontinued but you should be able to get hold of one, maybe even second hand. I'm not sure what they replaced it with, was it the C325BEE? But then if you're thinking second hand there's other makes such as Arcam that would fall in your price range.

Another make to consider would be Cambridge Audio. They do very well regarded amps that would suit your budget.

The speakers you've chosen are very good for the money and do produce good amounts of bass.

Will you be putting the speakers on stands? What about cabling? These items can add a fair bit to your overall cost.

Have a look over at AVForums, see what people there recommend for a decent start-up system.

I thought OcUK started to sell NAD gear?

^^ they will be sitting on my desk, and what ever the cabling costs it costs can't do without it :)

Thnaks for the advice I'll look into the models you've pointed out.

Well if they're sitting on the desk a spot of BluTack will do wonders to help the sound :)

I'm sure you'd be able to pick a C320BEE up second hand for a good price as they are a few years old now. It's surprising how time flies :)

You'll need a cable to connect your PC to whatever amp you get too.

I have one laying around somewhere so thats not a problem. I think my sound card also needs an upgrade so which one would be recommended? The new asus or go creative?

I've got the Extreme Music and am very happy with it, but the Asus jobs are definitely recommended a lot round these parts. :)

I'd be looking as above, I love the Arcam alpha sound, so I'd look at the Alpha 7, 8 and 9, maybe even pre-power will fall in budget :)

As for sound card, if you only want stereo, look at the M-Audio 2496 and cards with the EMU0404(?) chipset.
