Hey guys,

I just bought a new system that I can't get to post. No beeps, just a green light on the Asus A8n5X board. The fans all spin, but I can't get any video output at all. I have elimated the graphics card by using a known good card.

With only 1 RAM DIMM plugged in, the CPU and the video card - it just does nothing. The strangest thing is the temp of the CPU - it is stone cold. Not even warm.

The mobo has a 24 pin connector for power supply but the PSU only has a 20 pin socket. The PSU also has an additional 4 pin ATX 12v plug which can be clipped onto the side of my 20 point socket, making it 24 point. I have tried plugging in both power leads, but still no post

Have I fried the CPU by plugging in this extra 4 point ATX connector?

The cpu is an Athlon 64 3000+.
The board is an Asutek Asus A8N5X
The Ram is PC3200 Crucial
The Graphics card is an Nvidia 7200 (tested an working on another machine)

All of the components are new. The PSU is a 230W cheap job that came with the case.

Although the board has a 24 pin connector, I tried it with another 400W PSU using its 20 pin connector, but still nothing.

The thing that alarms me most is that even if I leave it on for like 20 mins, the heatsink on the CPU is stone cold, it should at least be warm...

Any help appreciated! :D

Have you removed the HSF and checked to see if they were actually making contact?.........

HSF plugged into the correct 3 pins on the mobo?....

On this motherboard does it have a 24 pin connector and a separate 4 pin 12volt connector (usualy somewhere near the cpu?

Ooooh.

The extra 4 pin plug.

One is on the same cable as the motherboard header but the actual header can be detatched.

Are you sure you havent plugged the CPU power lead next to the 20 pin motherboard header wrongly?

Im just guessing :)

The mobo has a 24 pin socket. It also has a 4 pin 12V ATX socket, near the CPU.

My power supply only has a 20 pin plug, but it has a separate 4 pin plug which can be clipped onto the side of the 20 pin plug, making it 24 pins.

I'm going here for either a dead CPU or something to do with the Power supply to the motherboard.....

Yeah, I tried both. with the 20 pin and the '24' pin, but still no post, and still a cold CPU.

It's not even warm, the heatsink is stone cold.

need more info.......I presume you have a heatsink attached with a fan and attached this to the header, also have you connected any other wires to the board IE: speaker/led drive, and the power switch< make sure you have the right> positive-negative connection
