New SFF build - no idea where to start

Hi guys, I'm looking to build a mini itx/ matx gaming rig and its been 8 years since I've had a pc. I have been using gaming laptops for those 8 years.

Budget is around the 1500 mark. No keyboard, mouse or screen required. Just the unit. Would like to leave a few hundred for cooling items and case so lets say 1300 for the unit.

Intel or AMD?

Potential to upgrade cpu down the line without motherboard upgrade would be nice. AMD tend to support their board sockets longer no?

For me it started with the available space I had, which informed which case to get.

Both Intel LGA1200 and AMD AM4 are now end of life. With only AMD offering a good selection of upgrades beyond 8c.

This is true. I went for an i5-11400 myself, in a b560, still very decent for gaming and saved me some cash to increase my gpu fund. Not that it has helped much.
