Hello all,

looking at buying my first ever shuttle case and building a small system to sit and work as my download box.

It works out just over 300 quid (ex vat) and i was wondering if anyone had any comments on it (such as will it work? :) )

Shuttle XPC SG31G2 Aluminium Barebones System - Intel Core 2 Duo (LGA775)

Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.00GHz (800FSB) -

Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKS)

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804)

Samsung SH-S203D 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Im aware it has no gfx card (it has onboard its all i need) and i know i can get faster CPU + RAM + Hard drive, but im kinda happy with what i have down here unless anyone can tell me im being silly :)

It will simply download things that i will burn to dvd its to replace my HUGE monster of a download machine.

The storage will mainly be taken care of by my NAS (a QNAP model i expect)

Thanks in advance for any tips/help.

seems windows wont install on my lovelly new build.
now spending the day trying to figure out what the problem is :) media/dvd rom/hard drive/cables..
a fun time of swapping everything ahead :)

well i swapped cables/ports/hard drives/media/dvd drives around and i seem to get nasty BSOD at any point of an early windows install. Or the install will simply hang. I have got as far as copying files once and then a BSOD with some random stop error.

Being a useless bios/overclocking person any idea how i make the ram play better? :)

hi chaps.
thank you for the tips. I am all up and running after adjusting the memory settings to run at 667mhz instead of default (800mhz i think)
i will have a play and try and get the ram to work :)

entered in 4-4-4-12 + 2.2v in the BIOS options restarted and now its not looking good.
time to figure out how to reset the cmos :)
thank god for the reset cmos button at the back !
back to 667mhz and working.

ok silly question time.
memory states:
DDR2 PC2-6400 • 4-4-4-12 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 2.2V • SLI-

So in the BIOS i changed:
DDR Voltage set from "auto" to 2.2v

CAS latency time from "auto" to 4
DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay from "auto" to 4
DRAM RAS# Precharge from "auto" to 4

I then have 2 options that can be set to 12 Precharge delay (tRAS) and Write recovery time. Both are set to Auto and both can be changed to 12 so should they both be 12?
