New Shuttle will not boot

Hi

I recieved a new Shuttle SD11G5 today and set about building it.
I have a Pentium m 1.6 cpu and also a 1 gig stick of Geil 4300 ddr2 ram.
Now this is the first Shuttle I have ever built and I am used to building standard pcs, I did find it very basic to set up and I was soon set to fire the new machine up.

On pressing the on button I was met by the sound of the heatpipe fan, could hear the chatter of the Samung sata hard drive and the blue power on light was visible.
However that is it and the Shuttle will not boot at all and just sits there refusing to boot.
I have tested my 1.6 cpu and it works fine (im using it in my laptop right this minute) and I reseated the cpu several times for good mesure but still nothing.
I popped the motherboard battery out and reset the cmos on numerous occasisons but no matter what I do the Shuttle will not boot.

Now the thing that is puzzling is the complete lack of beeps that might indicate a problem ?.

Any ideas guys ?

Ps I have booted the Shuttle with just the ram and cpu and still no joy

tried different memory sticks? if you can and it still doesnt work sounds DOA to me. if however changing the memory sticks works then ovbiously compatiblity issues with the shuttle + geil memory.

Hi

No option to try different mem imfraid.
I am going to take the box back to the store and get them to look at it they seemed pretty confident that the Geil should work and I honestly suspect that it s indeed DOA.

I will report back with better news hopefully !!

Ok here is the update.

I took the Shuttle back to the store and they replaced it due to the fact that they did not have a Pentium m cpu to test it with !!.
Well just built the replacement unit and I am getting exactly the same issues , fan spins but no boot/beeps and no output to the monitor.

I am now wondering if the ram is duff but what is confusing me is if I boot the Shuttle with no ram there are stilll no beeps ?.
Surely the Shuttle knocks out some beeps if things are not right or a single beep on a successfull boot.

Any help really appreciated , I have no idea what I have done wrong or is this another dead unit?.

Yes I have looked on the Shuttle mem list and there is no Geil listed there :( .
I did make a point of asking the guy in the store today about this brand being suitable and he seemed quite confident stating that Geil has a good reputation for being compatible with a wide range of setups.
I think the ram is not going to work in this unit so its another trip back with the box tomorrow.
I think I will ask them to test some different brands of ram rather than just take a stab at one particular make.

ps while looking on another forum tonight I have found a couple of posts exactly like mine, no boot whatsoever and the advice is try different ram.

Well I have had a disasterous time trying to get success with this Shuttle model.
I went back to the store and bought 2 sticks of corsair ram that was offically compatible according to the shuttle website.
On arriving home I placed the sticks on the Shuttle and still no success !! so to cut a long story short I returned the Shuttle and opted for a sn25p socket 939 box.
I have no idea why my first shuttle would not work but can only think that it did not like my pm 1.5 and pm 1.6 cpus even though they are supported by it?.

Anyway at least my new box is working so that is a relief after 2 days of head scratching.

good news the sn25p is good shuttle and welcome to the small but powerful world of the shuttle.i have had shuttles for the last four years and will not be going back to a tower :)

About the beeps, I don't think Shuttle XPCs do beeps, lol. I recently had a similar problem to you as well. All I did was change a few fans around, reapplied some Arctic Silver 5 on my CPU and swapped a hard disk, and then nothing came up on my screen. No beeps as well but, I've never had beeps before and they aren't mentioned in the manual. I only got it working after spending hours on end resetting the CMOS and waiting :p
