Hi all!

Due to the current revamping of the Mini-PC Section I've added a pair of Shuttles. The SN68PTG6 Deluxe (loaded ain't the word for this baby!) and the SN68PTG5 which are both the newest in Shuttles AM2 range

*Looks over the specs*

Yeah, they're pretty nice looking Shuttles - but I don't understand why they would release these now, with Phenom just released.

Don't forget Phenom is backwards-compatible and the AM2+ socket doesn't seem to benefit it much (at the moment anyhow). So a nice loaded SN68PTG6 Deluxe with a Phenom would still make a nice box

SP35P2 next Friday I hope! :D

in fact I'll check how many are available to us & put up a pre-order for them :)

Ah yes I know that! :p

Just that I expect something AM2+ to be right around the corner, which could well take sales away from these.

Then again if Shuttle are only just releasing a P35 Shuttle now, the AM2+ ones are going to be a fair distance off. :o

[Edit] Hang on JediFragger... you work for OcUK don't you? :D

Any ideas or news on microATX AM2+ boards? I'm interested in a switch to Phenom.

Excellent news. Rough estimate on price? Is phenom up to much in terms of gaming performance?

Clock for clock the same as Core 2 Duo. Trouble is it doesn't overclock as well nor does it have the maturity of Intel's offering.

It might be better to wait for revision of silicon if you're thinking of going Phenom. Then again it's a good upgrade path for anyone already on AM2.

hmmmm really not sure which one i prefair... im not 100% on the G6 yet but it could grow on me more.

could someone point out the majour differences in the two other than case type. im asuming the mobos are exactly the same...? what would make me choose the G6 at £50 more really. sorry im a bit out of touch with recent models.

nice to see some more models here though ocuk has seemed a little sparce when it comes to shuttles. I have often thought you should have some high spec gaming and media versions for your full systems section.

as for the am2/am2+ conserns theres really next to nothing in it from everything i have been reading.

That will be coming m8, it's in my plan :)

As for differences between them, it's mainly just the connectivity extras, fingerprint scanner for security & the sweeter casing. If you don't need them then go for the G5 it still looks *damn* good

Excelent :) Good luck with that :)

had more time to look over and a few of the features do look nice

Speed-Link - easily connect 2 PCs via USB and share data
Wireless LAN 802.11b/g, up to 54 Mbit/s data transfer rate
Bluetooth 2.0 dongle (if its internal)

Not interested in the fingerprint tbh

Anyone know what kinda performance i could get out of the onboard GFX on these shuttles ?

Thanks

Should be able to play older games such as ut2004, Counter Strike 1.6 and similar at decent frame rates and resolution.

Newer [older] games like hl2 and doom3 may also be able to run to an acceptable level but at fairly low resolutions and quality settings.

Best way to look at it in my opinion is, it's a great stopgap untill you can afford a dedicated gfx card. With the gfx card out of the initial spec also you can afford to spend more on other components. 2x2gb ram moduels, quad core cpus, faster/bigger harddrives, etc.

2d performance should be fine btw. not 100% on vista areo though.
