New Sigma Lenses

I'm really excited about the 500mm f/4. It has been rumours that Sigma would do something like this for ages. I just hope it lives up to the expectations, if so it will be mine! $5000 less than the Nikon, only abut 200grams heavier.

I had a Sigma 8-16mm APS-C lens (12-26mm full frame equiv) and it was awesome for interior photography. For everything else it was too wide and a bit heavy to carry around so I sold it.

I think it's purely a lens for high end Estate Agents :p

The 85 1.4 is one I've been looking out for even since I got the 35mm Art, and now it's here. I'll likely sell the 85mm 1.4 EX and get the new model shortly after release.

I'm also really interested in looking at the 12-24. I already have the Tamron 15-30 2.8 VR, it's a superb lens and also sharp from edge to edge, with the bonus of IS for lower light indoor stuff. But it's big and heavy, actually longer than the 85mm 1.4 EX, so a big of a chore to carry around.

It would be really nice to have all my lenses as Sigma Art. They just look the business compared to even L lenses.

If you're after small lenses then these new Sigma's may not be for you.

I'm interesting in the IQ of the 12-24 but ultimately I think the Tamron is a little better for me. No where near as wide though. 12mm on FF is crazy hard to compose properly.

That 500 looks sexy. Relatively reasonable price point as well, especially after it drops a little bit below RRP a while after release.

It would make a nice companion to the 120-300 f/2.8, although lugging close to 7kg around would be a pain. Better than the 150-600 sport though I assume, and a lot more light... On the other hand the zoom would be more practical day to day if you didn't need the extra light (and it's cheaper). It's what, around a stop and a half slower at 500 and about 2 stops slower than the 120-300?

I'm sure they won't make any of them with a pentax lens fitment...

I really choose the worst brand to invest in third party lens wise.

When ever anyone has asked about a Pentax camera on this forum I have always warned them. Fantastic cameras, amazing lenses, good value for money, but an extremely small user base and lack of 3rd party support, small investment (e.g., look how long it took for them to release a FF camera). I always got lambasted by Pentax fanboys but the reality is if you are starting fresh and want a DLSR there is really no reason not to go Nikon or Canon. Pentax don't have some fundamental differentiating technology.

It would be great if Pentax was stronger but the reality is they will probably stop selling DSLRs. What they really need to do is expand on the affordable MFD market which they basically have to themselves. They could take lots of landscape and studio togs away form Canon and nikon by expanding the 645 series and lenses, and being ultra aggressive with price If I was doing more landscape work I would ditch my D800, get a D500 (crop) for wildlife and but a Pentax 645Z for landscape work.
