New sim card - no signal

I have had my iPhone3G since launch, I have never had a 3G signal. So rang O2 who suggested a reset of all network settings and then see how i got on.

Still no luck so they said its cause I need a new simcard (i used my old one when i upgraded in July from my old 3G K810i.

Today I got the new Simcard - however I have took the old one out and replaced it with the new one. Now the phone has no signal, even after 20mins, one power down and one hard reset.

Should I expect it to work a bit later? I assumed it would work straight away.

Have you tried rining O2 to ask? They may need to make the switch over happen once they know you've got the new card.
