Dont usually post these here, but we're especially pleased with this one, and at the same time the possibilities for bugs is quite high due to the techniques used, so if anyone spots any major bugs they get a virtual cookie :)

Edit - didnt realise you cant use a tiny url.

http://www. strada.co.uk

You'll need to take the space out - dont want it to show in the referrer stats that the client sees in case they find their way to this thread!

Very nice - one of the best sites I've seen in a while. Sophisticated but degrades gracefully, visual effects are impressive but not intrusive. The sIFR adds a surprising amount of polish. And I didn't see any bugs :)

out of interest what roughly was the fee? don't need specifics just more then x and less then y etc

on the main image on the home page there is like 3 tiny grey boxes at the top right. should these be clickable? i can click 1/2 but not 3 in ff3

On the "find a STRADA near you" page, the drop-down list extends below the viewport, causing you to have to scroll down.

I would also suggest having an option to view the menu within the site, rather than having to download the PDF, as not everyone will have a PDF reader or wish to download a separate file?

Overall I like! Loving the different themes, too! :)

I'm really liking that.

Very well done indeed!!! :D

Can I ask, was that a collaborative effort shared between a large design and dev team or a couple of individuals that were responsible for it?.

And cheekily as someone else already asked, what cost, ballpark was involved?.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Cant really say, but 5 figures.

I'm not sure where you mean? The theme changer? If so thats just one big link

Hhmm, thats wierd - can you tell me your screen resolution and browser? It shouldnt be doing that.

Re the Menus - thats a business decision. Each restaurant has different pricing depending on the location, as well as the specials and offers, so I think its just a case of being very difficult to keep on top of.

Lovely front end, backend looks a tiny bit straggly but nothing terrible ^^

Cheers - not sure what you mean by backend though? If you mean the HTML then I'd have to disagree (but then I would ;))

We're a very small agency - just me, who is the developer, my business partner who is the designer, and a guy we employ, who is also a designer and good with javascript :) Link to our site is at the bottom of the Strada page.

We're a pretty lean agency - we dont employ any 'Project Managers' or 'Account Managers' we just take care of everything ourselves. Helps to keep overheads low and to be honest stops the chinese whisper type communication that you tend to get in bigger agencies (we've all worked in bigger agencies and deliberately want to keep ours small)

The sites being featured in .NET magazine this month, which is nice :)

nope not that.

on the main image there is 3 little grey lines at the top right, about 2px height and 6px width. you can click the first which flashes the main box back to the first win £100 swinging image, click the second it shows the green leaves and the text strada by day..., click the third and it does nothing.

edit2: also when js is disabled the main flash image says opps instead. imo it would be nicer to say something better or just one of the images from the flash image.

Ah, I see - in the flash panel.

Good spot, thanks for that :) They should all be clickable so we'll get it sorted in the morning

My screen res is 1440x900, Firefox 3.0.6.

But I don't have it full-screen, so the viewport is probably smaller than your "typical" 1024x768 design window, so it might just be me being awkward! ;)

And fair enough regarding the menu - I guess the number of people who DO have a PDF reader probably outweigh those who don't! ;)

I normally love to pull these sites apart (I'm not a nice person) but I'd struggle with this one.

I like it. I'm not sure if the imagery would wear on me over time - it's very dominant, but I guess with a series of themes to play with (impressive) I can keep things fresh.

At a technical level, a few observations:

Why Transitional and not Strict?

You are missing (populated) ALT attributes for the images - so the site is not accessible, and will have problems on many phone/PDA browsers.

Why are images used for the menu? I don't see anything that precludes you from using plain old text.

And I'd Link, rather than Import styles...

But in general, it is a pleasant site to use.

love the site, normally i can pick out at least one or two faults but with this i really can't. The javascript degrades really well :)

it has inspired a few ideas for my own projects:)

well done !

I don't get it. In the news section:
Says Webuser, "The design uses lots of colourful, appetite-whetting imagery
, but I don't see anything that vaguely resembles a pizza there except in the menu section. I would not have known Strada was a restaurant site at a glance if it wasn't for the page title while I was waiting for the page to load. But since I'm in the U.S. that's probably not an issue. I would certainly want to make people hungry by coming to my site, though, and images of cash registers and building fronts won't do that.

The mouse scroll wheel is hit and miss on the pages. What causes that?

Otherwise I think it is a very nice looking site and one I would be proud of. :)

Did you have to develop all the content also, or was that provided by the company? Is there a CMS engine so the company can update their own content, or will they do all updates through you?
