well just having a flick threw the movie channels and found i have a few new ones
309-sky movies 9
310-sky movies 10
311-sky movies 9HD
312-sky movies 10HD

the two HD ones mirror whats on the normaly 9 and 10 channels. all 4 channels are pin protected so im guessing we will get 15+ films before the watershed now.

It looks like Sky are now moving the final pieces into place ready for launch.
The have been using HD cameras at football matches for a while now but up untill a few weeks ago the HD signal stopped at the truck at the stadium and was then sent on to Sky via standard deff, as of a few weeks ago its now sent all the way in HD to Sky.
I did an add channels last week and ive got another Sky 1 and a few other channels that just look to be mirror channels of the normal ones, i wonder if these will also be some of the HD channels in the next few weeks ?

i know for the launch there will be 2 movies a sky1 style channel, sky sports, some arts channel and iv heard rumour of a history channel. as for the rest we'l have to wait and see. hopfully sci-fi makes it there :D

Launch line up also includes National Geographic, Discovery. Sky one will broadcast simultaneously in SD and HD for certain shows including 24 Rescue Me, Bones plus others I can't recall.

The phone no. shown on the HD channels suggests launch date to be 1st April, but that might be a joke:)

Look at it this way the new box will cost you £300 then you will make 12 payments of around £50

So that's around £900 for a year of $ky TV, Can someone please tell me what's on $ky that you can't get on freeview thats so good it's worth £900?

High Def feeds mainly.

Does anyone know what level of HD this will be, 1080i etc

is 720p really any better than PAL encoding though?

Without any doubt a good 720p is far better than standard PAL encoding. Don't really know what the Sky feeds or compression, etc, will make it look like though.

Well the £300 gets you one of the best PVR's out there, until you have used the features of Sky+ then you haven't lived. I believe it's worth twice that.

I can't argue with the £50 a month bit however, I only watch a few of the channels regularily on sky+ but sky craftily manage their packages such that each package has a channel I want in it except sports but then you get 1 free package if you take the other 4.

I doubt i will be an early adopter of Sky HD however as I felt ripped off last time when the sky+ boxes dropped in price so quickly. I'll wait a few months for sky to take their fat tithe from the early adopters before I upgrade.

I had Sky Digital as soon as it came out and the same with Sky+ and even though i paid the premium for getting those early ill still get Sky HD as soon as it comes out, after all why spend close to £3K on a TV and not use it to its full potential, i told my wife that it was going to cost £500 for the box plus £10 subs so anything less she will think its a bargain and i keep her posted on a daily basis on the advantages of HD and on how close we are to getting Sky+...God i should work for the Sky PR department as im doing such a good job of making her a believer ;), ill have to doctor the signal the week before we get SkyHD so she can see the improvement...ohhh wait Sky will probably do that for me :)

same for anyone who takes the plung for new kit, it costs no matter if its tv's hi-fi's games systems of satalite kit. but we'l all part with cash :D

Ye just noticed the channel upgrade it says program starts at 5pm on the channel so box launch must be imminent.
