Okay this might be a dumb moment on my part but i've just moved home and have installed Sky broadband, with a new Sky router. The router is working connected to the internet etc but I cannot see my Synology box at all. Not even through the assistant. So I was wondering if some kind soul can talk me through the basic setup. It must be something simple as it was working fine in my old home, using BT and a different router of course. I don't know what is wrong.

Thanks in advance.

What shows up as being connected to your network? Is it just the NAS that's not visible or are there others?

According to the sky box it lists this lot :-

SKY+HD Cabled
AsusROG Wireless
SKY+HD Cabled
UNKNOWN Wireless
android-1e3*** Wireless

I don't know what the unknown is, but the Synology is wired and that's not showing up at all. So I don't get it.

The Unknown device might actually be the Sky on demand device plugged in to the other setup.

Press and hold the reset button on the Synology for about 4 seconds until it beeps once, that will wipe the network settings out and it will fall back to DHCP.

Is it a new Synology or existing one?

What IP did it have before, was it manually set?
-If it was previously 192.168.1.30 for example, then connect up a PC/laptop to it directly cutting out the router, set your PC/laptop IP to be 192.168.1.29

Then connect to the website.. 192.168.1.30, login and change the IP to automatic, connect it back up to your router.

I'd use the router to set it a static DHCP address via the MAC address of the Synology.

There's no need to use the assistant.

This.

It sounds like your new router is using a different subnet. If you statically assigned your Synology it'll be on the wrong network.

EDIT: In light of bledd's post, Caged's suggestion is only if you don't know what your NAS's IP is.

Is there a way to reset the settings without using the reset key? I've just attempted to reset, with a pin. The pin must have broken the reset switch because it went all the way in and I heard the button or whatever it is rattle around :(

Phew.. You clever chaps. It was using a static IP (which I couldn't remember doing). But obviously this was preventing me seeing it at all on my new router. I had to dig out the old router, attach the Synology and configure it that way. I reset it to DHCP and connected it back to the Sky router. Job done, for now. Thanks a lot! Was panicking slightly there as all my photos are on it.

Glad it's sorted, I'm not ocean of manually setting ips, unless it's something like a mailserver. Much prefer reserving them (static dhcp)

If you have knocked the reset button inside the case are you not in the least bit worried about it shorting on some thing?
