New Sony MFMHT205S

Just seen this on the sony style website. Specs look good and looks exactly what I want, flat pc monitor + xbox 360 hd.

Anyone seen this before or have any reviews for it ?

Cheers

will have to remove the link i'm afraid as they'd be classed as a competitor. Feel free to discuss the model though, just can't have direct links to their shop

Specs of that Sony are so damn close (or even identical) as the NEC LCD20WGX2. Wonder if they are using the same panel as well. Apart from that, X-black is there, many video inputs are present (HD in, component in, SCART) ... so in other words it's also TV. It's probably good solution for the people who would like to have fully blown TV features also.

Price is high, but I suppose that you are paying here for the "Sony" brand and extra TV features. Also, not sure about the design and ergonomics as that angle of the monitor is quite strange. Is it adjustable ?!

It seems that your link is not working. As it would be inappropriate to post here the competition links (as this is the shop forum), correct model number is: Sony MFMHT205S ... so people may simply google it and find out more.

Does the NEC have component inputs ?

Nope. But US version NEC LCD20WMGX2 is video enabled and it's practically also the "TV" machine. If Sony is really using the same panel as NEC, I guess that this could be the equivalent of US version of the NEC for the people who are keen to have video features. Of course, this is not "applicable" until we are in position to confirm what panel Sony is really using. Some reviews would be helpful also.

Looking good... could get a Dell 2405 for that but better res for weaker PC's and XBOX360 through component. Says HD ready so is it Vista Ready?

When you download the pdf spec sheet (from the Sony web site) for this monitor, it's stated that LCD type is "MVA". If it's really using the MVA panel, not really sure what's going on here.

Are there any other MVA panels at 6ms ? if so what are they like ?

For example, Belinea 102035W & Viewsonic VX2025WM are based on the P-MVA 8ms panel. What is confusing about the Sony spec is that response time, brightness and that massive contrast rate simply are not in-line with the specs of typical MVA panels. This is the reason why I was surprised about the specs, until I downloaded the monitor pdf spec sheet. Also, as this is the "TV" monitor it may happen that it's using completely different MVA panel type then one which we used to see in typical desktop LCD monitors. As far as I know, for now there are no monitors based on the same panel as NEC LCD20WGX2. Questions are if rated specs for the Sony are honest, is additional overdrive in place and if additional panel control circuit in combination with X-Black is combined and improved to the extent that such boost in the contrast ratio is achieved. We simply don't know, so maybe it's wise just to wait for some further clarifications or honest reviews about this unit.
