I've currently got the motherboard (Asus P5Q deluxe) going via optical to back of a yamaha dsp ax763 av amp (I have a 7.1 speaker setup). Works pretty well, get DTS etc etc. I can also click "pure direct" on the yamaha which I guess bypasses all of the effects gubbins. The PC hosts music (mp3 to lossless), films (full HD Images too). I've also got a valve amp that can either run via pre-outs from the av amp or be fed directly from the soundcard.
I'm on a bit of an upgrade path so was wanting a soundcard but one that will still output the right stuff for the AV side but also good quality for the audio side... I may also want pre-outs from the card to run seperately into the valve amp rather than going via the yamaha for when I play lossless music.
So I'm a bit confused and not really sure what I want and wondering if anyone can point in the right direction as I'm not sure what spec to look for on the card other than the output sockets! I.e. do I need a card that can do 7.1 and DTS or does the av amp always handle that?
Confused!
