Ok my system isn't the newest .. running a a Soundblaster fatality pro and an ancient Altec Lansing 5:1 surround speakers. I've never had problems with the card until I (stupidly) decided to update drivers. All went well until I started up and played a song from itunes. the interference and distortion was appalling and my left front speaker then decided to die ... I've always had interference with the card no matter what I tried but this was the worst (on the same settings prior to driver update). ... so now .. what should I get to replace the card and speakers baring in mind I will have a gap to fill in the front of my box ... I would like to keep to the same format if I can ie. 5:1 with a good bass and clarity and also a front control panel if possible .. all ideas welcome

yep done that and the interference is just the same ?? It has even done something to the volumes level as well. I've just plugged in my spare speakers and I have to max out the volumes ?? I tried the on board sound and it works no problems. Wondering if I should chuck the sound card altogether. Are they really worth the quality difference ? I'm running a Gigabyte EX-58 UD5 mobo

I have one of these

If you are Gaming on 7.1 like me their is nothing better, i got mine second hand from a auction site for a lot less.

But if the onboard is working and you dont need 5.1 or 7.1 then it should do what you need.

I also had Sounblaster for years but drivers were a pain on wn 7 and 10 but the asus cards are a league above now, the difference on 5.1 and 7.1 was super.

I was trolling through the net last night at reviews and such. Was thinking of going down the Asus Xonar Essence STX II either in the dual channel or in the full 7.1
Now I then have to think about the speakers .. I want a good quality set with a great sub for gaming. I have a set of AE 2.1's on my other computer and the mid range is sadly lacking. So depending on the available speakers as to what soundcard I get ???? Once again, all suggestions welcome ..

Ok I blew the budget and bought a Asus Xonar Essence STX II 7.1. Now I have several options.
1. I can buy a set of desktop speakers with a sub included ...
2. or I could use a set of B&W 602 s3's and buy an amp to run them through (bi wire for the bass)
3. or I could use the B&W 602 s3's as high/mid range and get an amp and sub to give a deeper bass ...
Thoughts anybody?
also any ideas what sub and amp I should be looking for?
