New Speaker Advice Needed

Hi,

I'm looking for a new set of speakers... Ideally they'll be 2.1, suitable to sit on a small desk (with the sub underneath) and around £50 (would spend a little more).

As I understand it, wired speakers offer a better quality of audio. Does anyone know of any speakers that offer a wired and wireless connection? Or a solution that would allow me to set this up?

Any advice welcome to help me find some that offer good quality audio (gaming / music / videos) and features is really welcome - thanks in advance!

Wireless within your budget is not going to happen, though there are some good wired sets within your budget. If you really want 2.1, I reckon you will not find much better than the MicroLab FC330 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-005-ML.

Good reviews around the net and what I would buy in your position, though you should also consider a pair of speakers by themselves, as they will offer a better all-round audio quality.

Thanks - if I was to up my budget to go wireless, can I get a pair with a wired connection too? Or something to sit in the middle?

I think you need to clarify what you mean when you say wireless...

Do you mean you want it to have Bluetooth?

Or do you mean you want a battery powered speaker?

Creative T3150 and S2 offer both wired and Bluetooth connections.

Personally, I'd go for the Microlab FC330 over the Creative's, but that decision would be purely based on quality. If you want wireless connection as well as wired, then the T3150 or S2, may be the be only 2.1 wireless alternatives that don't cost in the region of £100-150 or more.

Another option would be to get a separate Bluetooth receiver, which you could connect to any set of speakers. Microlab FC360 might be a better choice here because it has 2 wired inputs (many others only have the one input), to which you can connect a Bluetooth receiver and any other wired connection device.

I have got Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter/Receiver for £20, and whilst it doesn't support Aptx, it sound decent enough and is very easy to use.

IMO for your budget, just grab the FC360 for £47, and spend £20 on the Receiver and you are set.
