Okey i'm 90% certain on a X-Fi now

everyone seems to be ravin on them

i need some good speakers

2.1 really

and not more than 50 quid (well poss a little more at a push..)

as i'm a game player and rarely use speakers i have some decent headphones...

anything anyone recemmends?
I have been tempted by *** creative ones...
but i want something that will do a X-Fi Justice
Cheers

I'm not sure which X-Fi you want, but for 2.1 sound an M-Audio 2496 card might be better. It lacks the special features but offers better sound quality. It might be cheaper (its £50) than the model X-Fi you want an so might leave enough to budget for better speakers like the Aego 2.1 set sold here. That combo will offer better sound quality (especially the speakers) so its worth considering :)

For sub £50 2.1 sets your looking at JBL Creature 2, Logitech Z4, or perhaps the Gigaworks T20 (supposed to be good, expect less bass output though)

like i said mate, i don't really use speakers, i usually use the headphones :D

thats why the X-Fi is comming and some cheaper speakers for when the headphones hurt...

Good and £50 2.1 speakers is a oxymoron.
You need to spend more.

And the M-Audios are higher end cards compared to CL. Still I guess Creative spring to mind first as the only SC maker. :(

Look at £100 for a 2.1 speaker set. Don't dismiss other cards, just out of hype with Creative as it'll be no different to buying Bose lifestyle, just because everyone else buys one. Read up on X-Fi crackling problems for a start.

Others have reported M-Audio 2496 and Revolution 5.1 sound better than the X-Fi. Still, if you want to buy a inferior sounding SC that's upto you.

I'd be very suprised if the 2496 sounded worse than the X-Fi. All your money goes into quality stereo; the card is designed for semi-pro applications. However, you like to use headphones and i'm not sure how these would connect up (adapters could be used but i'm not sure if the 2496 has the current drive for headphones anyway  ).
