Looking at upgrading my speakers to Logitechs Z-5500D 5.1 THX SPEAKERS, would I need to upgrade my sound card too or would my onboard sound suffice? Currenty have ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard. If I would need to upgard my sound card what do you recommend?

Your board supports 5.1 no problem but there are benefits from a dedicated soundcard.
Something like an X-Fi or Auzentech will outperform onboard in both sound quality and features.
Dedicated sound cards will also help overclocking as the onboard set ups pass a fair chunk of the "work" to the CPU.
If you are serious enough abough sound to consider the Logitechs then I'd definitely suggest a soundcard upgrade to get the most out of them.
