Looking to buy some new speakers but know nothing about them. I guess I want 5:1 but will they run on my onboard sound?

My budget is £70, please recommend me the best speakers for that price

Upgrade Advice

soundcard to SB Audigy 4 (£35)

Upgrading your soundcard is worth while, especially for gaming sound effects. Be sure to disable on-board sound aswell.

Speakers similar to Creative Inspire T6060 5.1 Speakers (£50)

Also Creative Inspire 5.1 P5800 Speakers (£40)

Creative Inspire 7.1 T7900 Speakers (£66)

I think I will be getting those T6060s as I read a review on them and they said the speakers were excellent, also they stick on the wall! I dont have enough for a sound card as well but I have a creative sound blaster in my other PC if that would be an improvement over my onboard sound

Soundblaster 5.1, 7.1, se is no better than onboard really.

You need to get an audigy or x-fi, becuase they have sound chips that process the sound effects. Audigy 2 and Audigy 4 are cheap and very good. The difference is great.

The speakers look ok but i'm not too keen on the wired remote.

My brother has the T6060 set and doesn't like them at all, i've heard them and they are very poor imo too (both with games and music). However, for the budget they might be the most suitable set. Could your budget strech to the Creative I-Trigue 5.1 5600 set at all? I hear they are good.

I cant increase it by that much, but if the T6060 set isnt all that then can you recommend me another set under £80 please?

There's really not going to be anything under that much good for 5.1 (except possibly second hand?). However, for 2.1 you can get a great sounding set (ie, the Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 for £82.19). So it depends if your after sound quality, or 5.1 at this budget level. A lot of people buy 5.1 sets and actually never set them up properly (due to space, room layout etc). If you don't think you'll be able to, then you may as well get the 2.1 set and enjoy much better sound quality and tidyness :)

I ended up buying the SB audigy 4 sound card and the silver JBL 2:1 speakers which look like spaceships (I mainly bought them becuase they look cool but also heard they had decent sound quality).
