Hello,

So I've tried two pairs of Edifier R1600T speakers and both have had left speakers which have been 15-20% louder than the right.

Can anyone suggest alternatives to the R1600T? Budget isn't fixed but maybe £100-150.

I'm eventually going to buy a Schiit stack so I was thinking active speakers would be best?

Cheers

budget isn't fixed try the Ruark Mr1 mk2
Although flexible I think my top budget would be £200 at most, if not a little cheaper.

Seems odd you've that with 2 pairs. I wonder if that's just bad luck, or something else.

Have you tried them connected to another device, like a smartphone/tablet or laptop?

If it's the speakers, it should be present whatever you use them with. If it's not there, the issue lies elsewhere.
Cheers marsman - yeah just listening to them with my Pixel XL now, same issue. I thought maybe same manufacturing process / batch of parts etc. I've gone so far as to get someone else to come and have a listen, they closed their eyes, I moved the left/right balance, stopped when they thought it was centred, and they came to the same conclusion as me, both sets around 15 - 20% needing the left speaker turned down for it to be centred. I think I'm done now with Edifier, I'll return this pair to OverClockers within the 14 day window.

I've been going through some old threads on here and seeing what options were suggested in the past...

Audioengine A2
Presonus Eris E4.5
M-Audio AV42
M-Audio BX5 D2
Alesis Elevate 5 MKII
Mackie CR4
Dali Zensor Pico

How to pick from the above?! Or maybe something else I've missed.

Thanks Marsman,

How much space between the wall do rear ported speakers need? I think I'd be happy spending £150 so the Presonus Eris 4.5 are sounding an option.

Would the A2+ with a built in DAC be a good idea since I'm planning on hookinh them up to a Schiit Modi 2 Uber DAC.

Would there be any other options for around the £150 marker?

Thanks again

I'd completely forgotten about Behringer. Their MS range look more like multimedia speakers, but that's not a bad thing; not unless you need them for music production (which I'm guessing you don't). They get plenty of good comments and look like a good alternative.
Cheers - I think I'm decided now on the Eris 4.5. They get generally positive write ups and even this one http://digitalstereophony.blogspot.co.uk/2016/02/presonus-eris-e45-review.html compares them well against the JBL LSR305. Presonus also come across as a decent brand whereas Behringer seem less so. The Eris 4.5 don't seem to be beaten on price either, the only other ones I'd consider around the price are:

Presonus Eris E4.5 £149.99
Tannoy Reveal 402 £202.00
JBL LSR305 £206.00
KRK Rokit RP5 G3 £230.00

I'm also pretty impressed with the various options on the back of the Eris models letting you tweak the output dependent on position against walls / corners and so on.

Cheers for all your help!
