hey guys,

I been outa the game for a while with the summer and all but im looking to get to grips with the latest tech in time for christmas when i intend to upgrade my a new rig. mainly for stuff like far cry 2 and crysis and whatever other lovely shiny titles are on the way.

basicly i need to know weather i could put together a spec now and wait untill the price drops over the next few months and just get that OR is there a major anything about to be reliesed e.g a big step up in mobos, cpus, or gfx (not DX10)

so ill be looking for something quite meaty im trying to stay under £600 and i wont need a whole new rig just the folowing components:

Mobo
CPU
RAM
GFX card
PSU
and maybe depending on the price
DVD drive

ive been looking but as i said ive been outa the game for a while and just wanted some rough specs/ advice to go on

thanks for any help

as you mention crysis i'd leave it a bit, set to be released so you'll be able to check benchmarks etc to get an idea of what you're likely to need.

as for the spec you mentioned as a rough idea , pc6400 2x1gb (maybe the ballistix 5300 if its still overclocking well when you buy), 6750 processor, mobo wise p35 may well still be you're best bet come xmas, keep an eye on the newer x38 for price drops etc, psu 520w corsair, gfx 8800gts 640 or gtx depending on the prices and crysis benchmarks (bearing in mind new nvdia cards are just around the corner, may be in place for purchase by christmas).

hey mp, thatnks for your input, i came up with something similer, good to know the fourms havnt lost there touch ;) a little birdy told me the reqs for crysis, now this birdy could be a load of bs but i dunno. i do know that im not gonna be able to get a really top end card on release, trainee technicians just dont make that much so ill probs go for the 8800gts unless the price drops on the other cards. i might overclock but i seriously doubt it unless i can get a wicked sick cooling system later on.

thanks again mp

np matey, main thing i've seen mentioned that may make the difference in choice, is the affect of the 320 vs 640mb gts, hopefully when its out and bench'd the difference will be available for an obvious choice :D

i see what you mean, most of the good looking new games coming out are going to require atleast half a gig of video ram to run propperly. so im not going for anyless than that
