Hi this is my 2nd build last in 2017 but windows 11 not supported by my old i5.

Mainly using for work (exel/word/some photo editing etc) but want to use for some games for my 8 y/o.

I am keeping my old case/dvd/SSD and minded to try and keep power supply.

Spec so far -
Old

be quiet! SILENT BASE 800
Super Flower Leadex II 650W 80 Plus Gold
Pioneer BDR-209DBK - Blu-Ray DVD/RW
Samsung 960 EVO V-Nand NVMe PCIe M.2 250GB SSD

New

Intel 10 Core i5 14400F
Asus TUF Gaming B760-Plus WIFI (LGA 1700) DDR5 ATX
Crucial T700 2TB SSD PCIe Gen5 NVMe M.2
TeamGroup Delta RGB 32GB DDR5 PC5-57600C34 7200MHz
be quiet Dark Rock 5 CPU Air Cooler

My questions -

1) do i need to get a GPU for games - if so what would you recommend for £100-150 second hand.

2) should i upgrade the power supply - its 8 years old but seems fine

3) i wanted to plug in my old ssd as it has all my programs on and windows 10. Is this going to be ok?

Thanks!!!

You need a graphics card for an image anyway with that spec, since Intel -F CPUs won't give you one.

You could get the 12600K instead, which performs similar and does have integrated graphics.

Basic indie/2D games or very old games would run fine, but anything serious will need a proper graphics card. Anything recent will be unplayable (struggle to hit 30 fps), even at a low resolution like 1080p.

I'd be cautious here, this RAM is much higher than the stock speed of your CPU and I think with non-K CPUs you may struggle to hit those speeds anyway because of the voltage locks.

A half-decent single or dual fan tower cooler for £20 or less is fine for a 14400F. You could get a peerless assassin/phantom spirit if you really wanted, but they don't need it.

I wouldn't. An extra ~£80-£100 on a decent PSU (since good low wattage PSUs are scarce) will munch a hefty part of your budget.

I assume no BitLocker encryption or Windows Hello? If so, it should be fine, but make sure you have backups, just in case e.g. you get stuck in a BSOD boot loop.

This seems excessive for the usage you described, do you do loads of file swaps, photo importing, or something like that?

Thanks Tetras for taking the time to reply really appreciate it. I have actually bought the kit already (apart from the Cooler) so wondering what i can now do to swap out one or some components to balance the system better (I bought well so can probably ebay and get my money back).

I was thinking of playing civilization 7 so it sounds like i may need a graphics card. I do work with large files hence why i went for the fast ssd.

Should i downgrade the Ram speed or upgrade the processor? I was trying to future proof and achieve a fast system capable if playing games but may have made a hash of it!

If you're in the UK and bought new, you can return whatever you've purchased no questions asked within a two week period by law.

You'll be liable for postage but that's about it.

Eh, it depends how much you paid. If you didn't pay much over the odds, I'd just keep it. There are worst things than oversized coolers and fast memory :D

Yeah, you'll need something good for that.

There's an article here that may interest you:

The minimum I'd recommend for buying today is a 6600, which funnily enough is the recommended AMD card for the game. They also suggest a 2060, which performs similar, but a 3060 or 4060 would be fine too.
