Hi Guys.
In the hunt for a new machine and have settled on this lot. Dont need a case or hard drives as im using existing Kandalf case.

Core 2 Quad Q9450 (258.49),
ASUS Maximus Formula Intel X38 (Socket 775)DDR2 (152.74),
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 Twin X (117.49),
Noctua NH-U12P Cpu Cooler (42.29),
Sapphire 3870x2 (287.86),
Samsung SM-2493 HM 24" Monitor (370.11).

Anyone spot any potential pitfalls or problems?

Any help much apreciated.

Welcome to the forums, everything there is compatible as far as I'm aware although you might want to check clearance on the motherboard for the CPU cooler. I'm assuming you've already got DVD drive, software and keyboard/mouse etc?

Going for Hyundai now for the 1:1 pixel mapping in stead of the Sammy! Also only 2ms compared to 5 on the Sammy.

The Toughpower should be fine, possibly a bit overkill going for 850w but not really any harm to it either. If you've been hanging about for a while then you'll know a Corsair HX 620w is also a decent option. :)

yeah but ill be o'clocking the cpu. I read the 3870x2 is 400w ish fully loaded. The machine *** be as above plus 2 hds, one dvd drive, and x/fi sound card. I have a pure power 620w psu in this machine as it stands. Do u think a 620w psu would be enough?

thx for your input

I reckon it would probably be fine but I haven't found any definitive sources for power draw yet so I can't say for certain. 400w on a graphics card sounds a bit extreme but it could be possible I suppose.

Check the Asus Formula Maximus thread in the motherboards forum, I have an inkling that people have reported compatibility problems between that heatsink and the mobo (which seems odd given I have the older version with supposedly worse clearance and it's fine).

Thanks, i shall certainly look it up. Any other recommendations if this proves to be the case?

Best
