new spec. Opinions?

the 8800GT - is that the card being released on monday?

I know little about motherboards, so the only reason i chose that one was for its support of DDR3 memory for any future upgrades. What do you think?

Thanks.

A few poinst about your spec:

Psu, id suggest this psu as its cheaper and i beleive to be better. its always being overclocked but is very reliable and a top quality psu. Its 650w but pc power and cooling list their psu's but the minimum wattage output unlike the other psus. So you wont get lower then 510w and will get up to 650w.

Like crofty said. Wait for the GT, they are destroying everything and are very close to a GTX. if it was overclocekd it would be as powerful as a gtx pritty much. They will be around 150/160 quid. the current GTS will be worth less then 100 quid when they come out. The new GTS is coming out in november 19 i beleive and that too should kick ass. The GT comes out tomorrow!

I beleive the dell screens arn't very good for gaming. Try the samsung 24"s.

:EDIT:

Do not buy a board which supports both ddr2 and 3. It will support neither verty well. DDr3 wont be mainstream for at least a year and possibly 2 and is a total rip off right now. This means in a year or two you can upgrade mobo and cpu and get new ram :)

Im not sure that mobo will fit a tuniq tower as its got things on its underside which mean that no cpu coolers that have a back bracket can be mounted. Which limits every good cooler lol. but they may have sorted taht problem out in the revion of the board.
Crofty when you gona be making you system :p I wana spec it lmao

Aye that's the card. Falls just short of a GTX, for less then GTS money. £140-180 depending on branding memory or speed... I'm guessing.

By the time DDR3 is mainstream you'll be wanting a new mobo anyway :)

8igdave: It's a crimbo system :p i can't wait :D You got msn?

The 2x500 gb hdd are for media storage etc, and the 160gb disc is for the operating system alone, and possibly other software. I thought it would be a good idea to isolate the operating system?

Dave -looks like ill wait for the new GT on monday then. All likely hood is i wont be buying until next weekend anyways so that should be a problem, and as for the gfx card, ill take that onboard. And as for the monitor, i will be going little gaming, this rig will mostly be used as a multimedia centre and editing software such as avid and adobe after effects. Ideally i was looking at the benq, but that seems to have dissapeared from the stock list. Ill look into the sammys though, see how they stack up against the benq/dell for video.

No you're better off putting the OS on one of the 500GB drives as they are faster than a 160GB drive. The Seagates are pretty noisy too, so I'd change them to Samsungs.

The Samsungs are also the fastest 500GB drives you can currently buy http://www.custompc.co.uk/labs/601069/hard-drives---500gb/products.html

The seagates arn't noisey. There seems to be a lottery currenty where you may get a quiet one or a noisey one.

Alternately get the Western digital AAKs series ones they are very quite and fast.

If this is a media pc you amy be better off with a cheaper ATI card as they support HD and all that. But if you want to play games then stick with the nvida ones as they are creaming the ati ones at the mioment. The GT does look to be the best selling card for the rest of this year and right into next year id say. I recon everone will be choising either a new GT or GTS over a new GTX.

If you cant find the monitor you want on here dont just settle for another. They are a lot to pay out for somthing you didn't want. Buy elsewhere if you cant get it here. OCUk arnt always the cheapest either.

OK that makes no sense. They aren't noisy, but you may get a noisy one. Right.

Anyway, Seagate, a few years ago now, were forced to remove their accoustic management technology from their hard drives because it violated someone elses copyright. Since then, I have not heard of them having implemented a new system, so the Seagates tend to be incredibly chattery when accessing data.

The new seagates are ment to be very fast and very quite. But there is a lottery. Sometimes you get a loud one is what im saying. Think it dependesr where the parts come from. Like samsung and how they used to have a lottery with screens.

Well then he might as well just get a Samsung drive then. Then he's *guaranteed* quiet and fast. No point introducing a lottery aspect to the purchase.

Well thast why i said get a Western digital drive AAKS as they were widely considered the best drives until the new seagates came along.

dave - what do you mean when you say the ATI cards support HD? Surely the 8800 series does too?

I dont really know enough abotu the ATI cards. But they have "hdmi" which is ment to deliver hd video and audio. The Nvida cards dont have this but you can still play hd etc as i beleive that is only limited by your screen. Im not overly sure. Im sure someone else can fill in the blanks on that one. But genearly if its a media pc i think ATI 2600 or 2900 pro is advised.

my other use for the pc is as an editing workstation and after reading on the adobe after effects site there seems to be a problem with the HD 2000 series -
* Some artifacts may appear in 32 bit-per-channel projects and when rendering shadows on these cards. Adobe is working with ATI to resolve these issues; please check back for more information.
