Hiya i currently have

Pentium 4 3.0ghz
Asus p4p 800 E Deluxe motherboard
2mb Ram (unbranded 2x 1gb)
Nvidia Ge force fx 5200 Graphics Card
Sea Gate Barracuda 160gb Hardrive ide
generic psu (came with cheap case)

I have had this pc four around 5 years+ i changed the original motherboard to the one above and put the Ram in..

I also have a Samsung LE46M87 46" 1980 x 1080p LCD TV supports 1x1 pixel mapping is it possible to play games on that tv with a good card?

So what i need is the new pc to be able to run well Dreamweaver, Fireworks and some other programs all opened at same time but i like gaming i currently have a xbox 360 and another question is would a pc for gaming within my budget be a better gaming experience than the xbox 360?

I will need pricing for

new case (like the antec 300)
new psu
new motherboard
new memory
new hardrive
new graphics card

Cost hopefully between £500 - £700 ish  id spend close to £700 if you guys feel it better to start right!

I really want to put my order in today/tonight, So can you guys help me with the spec a pc??? :)

I ran outa budget on the graphics card lol, so i'll wait till next month and get something better

Hi and welcome. :)

I'm not sure what games will look like on a 46" TV but the PC I spec'd below will definitely play games on it very well at that res.

Thanks for the fast reply.. i have seen these components crop up quite often and I am getting closer to making a decision. So do you feel £700 is goin to see a good improvement on a pc spec at £500?

It really depends how much you will be gaming. A £700 rig will play games on a 46" TV quite a bit better than a £500 rig. But if you won't be gaming much then you could get away with a ATI 4850 graphics card, which will still be decent and if you get a 4850 card instead you could lower the PSU to a ~ 500W, thus saving around £100 in total.

Ive been looking into 775 systems intensively these last few days as im thinking of getting one and the spec by GSdog is very good for the money

I would also consider getting a Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler or a Thermalright TRUE Black 120 CPU Cooler with 2 120mm fans for it.
either will give you plenty more room to overclock the q6600

I think the extra for the gtx 260 is well spent its an excellent card very fast.
In reviews it can run crysis at high detail on your max res at about 40fps and any card that can do that will fly with other games

Personally I would go with the caviar black 640 its a few pound more but faster
and in tests its close in performance to the raptors,

the q6600 is easily overclocked with the p5q pro and a decent cooler
Read the reviews on this chip and see vhat speeds people are getting, really good improvements even on air cooling

also 4gb ram is good enough for anything at the moment

Some nice ideas... thanks anyone else got anything to say or even a few more changes? Ideas?

+1 for the Antec 300. A lovely case to work with and cool as a cucumber.

Funnily enough I'm getting one of those 640mb caviar blues in a few days. My 250gb maxtor is making some "odd" sounds.

Is it a midi or full tower,
the gtx 260 is a big card and it might not fit if you haven't got plenty of room behind the drive bays

My concern was that the Tower, because its 5 yrs old, would have slot holes in different places to what is now required of the MoBo and the Graphics slot on my MoBo is obviously AGP

I havent kept up with PC builds for a couple of years now, which is my own fault, and where I was once a more than capable PC Builder, things have changed, and im worried I might run into probs :o

The components specced about by GSDOG, is that a relatively decent setup?

If I dont need a case, and I have brought only a few weeks ago a really decent 750w PSU, then I have mebbe a few more quid to play with

I'd like the best I can get for about 700 so if your reading this and can help, please :)

GSDOG: cannot PM you :( you have disabled private messaging :D

Am I able to use the MoBo specced above with the Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz and Crucial Ballistic PC2-8500 1066MHz Memory??

The Abit IP35 Pro was recommended in the shop for the Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz but if it works on the Asus P5Q then does it really matter?? Is there much in it between the Mobo's?

For the extra few quid the Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz is guaranteed to run faster providin its cooled properley ect ect ;)
