A64 3700 sandiego

1gb of ram 3200
x2 XfX 6600gt XXX

now due to a pay rise at work i have decided to treat my self and build a new rig now the only problem is i am a bit out of date with all new stuff thats come out i.e. quad core etc etc ,

i have got £1000 inc P+P i will not be doing any over clocking also is it worth going over to vista or to stick with my windows Xp

so all in all i would like a whole new rig with case, psu, dvd etc etc

regards Heero

Basically you want a Q6600 (CPU), Abit IP35 Pro (Motherboard), 2/4GB of DDR2 6400 RAM (the geil looks cheap at the moment), couple of SATA hard drives (WD AAKS for speed, Samsung for silence), 8800 GT, DVD SATA (your choice, but Pioneer are good), case (Antec, Akasa, Lian Li), Tuniq Tower on the CPU, floppy disk drive if you like but you shouldn't need it.

Ok so I admit the HD DVD drive is hardley nessacary but for 50 quid why not? didn't know if you needed an OS or not so left you money spare incase. Only got one hard drive but again alter some stuff if you want to put two in raid or somthing. Otherwise i'd say that was pretty much what you wanted.

Personally i'd stay with XP as its faster, but other people will tell you to switch to vista causeof Dx10, its upt o you really

edit, or and Antec P182 case as that seems to be flavour of the month, but i like the lian li ones

This is what I'd get. The Seagates should be incredibly fast in RAID 0. Early next year the GTX replacement should be out and you can sell the GT then. :)

EDIT: I keep getting the sensation that I've added too much of something or that I've forgotten something. Can anybody spot it?

definately go vista!

why do people spec aftermarket coolers when he specifically says he will not be overclocking?
