Recently bought a new computer

Spec:

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
MB: Gigabyte P35-DS3 (S-Series)
RAM: Giel PC2-6400C4 800MHz Black Dragon DDR2 2GB
GFX: ASUS Geforce 8800 GT 512MB
HDD1: 80GIG Samsung Spinpoint (Operating system drive)
HDD2: 500GIG Samsung Spinpoint (Music, Movie drive)
OP: Windows Vista 32bit

Problem 1:

When i play a song in winamp, itunes or even windows media player. While im surfing the web using firefox or even IE and move my mouse pointer over the page on (Certain) websites i get a really annoying crackling interference of some sort. For example a site like www.thesun.co.uk will constantly cause this crackle even once every image is loaded.

- All drivers have been updated to the newest version I could find.
- I've read reviews and they all say the audio is great
- Im currently using 24bits 48000Hz Studio Quality. The crackle dosn't go away when i change to the lowest setting 16bits 44100Hz CD Quality.
- Itunes is more crackily than winamp and windows media player
- I am now currently using winamp v5.531

Problem 2:

Sometimes if i properly shutdown the computer and dont use it for a few hours or even a day. Boot it up when i get to the windows vista icon the screen gets rendered in nasty distored, screwed, black and white squares. I can then hear the vista welcome sound at this point (just before you enter your password to login). The squares dont go away, I have to reboot into safe mode then once loaded, reboot the computer and it then gets into normal mode fine.

- Drivers are all up to date

have you tried a fresh re install ?

have you had a look at the bios updates available for the mobo ?

noticed you have 2 drives, does the same happen if you play music off the o/s drive ?

is the system overclocked ?

try running the system with the minimum on it, ie 1 stick memory, 1 hd No optical drive etc.

ive done a fresh re-install
ive updated the bios
the system is not overclocked

ive ran a DPC latency checker when i run firefox i get massive lag spikes as a page is loading, apart from that no lag spikes

ive also disabled the onboard sound card in the bios to see if that was conflicting with the graphics card still no change

im about to install xp on a spare hard drive to see if i get the same symptoms

Try putting your soundcard in different PCI slot,
and definitely check the wires from speakers because it sounds to me like they're just not connected correctly :). So is it any sound or just when you use some of the players ?

If it's onboard, then there should be slot on the mobo where you can plug your front panel jumper in, check it and try to plug headphones into front panel then, at least you will know if its maybe problem with the jacks on backpanel if the front will be fine.

Oh well, also try getting PCI soundcard from a friend, disable the onboard one in bios and check if it's fine like that.
