At the moment my pc is running on a single hd. I have bought a new 1tb hd and samsung 250gb evo ssd. I have backed up all the data i need off the installed hd onto flash drives . Now i want to install the new hard drive and ssd format the lot and place windows 7 on a clean install on the ssd then upgrade to windows 10.

Now the questions! Will windows give me a list of drives and option to format them individually before it installs. Also will i only need to partition the ssd. And does an ssd need formatting and or software ??? Sory if these questions seem stupid but all my past gaming builds have been in single hard drives so this is new to me.

When you boot into the windows installer it should give you the option to choose which hard drive to install on. You should be able to do all the partitioning and formatting you need to do either from the installer or later by using "disk management".

Don't forget to move the location of your libraries (my documents, pictures, etc) to the HDD if you want to save some space on the SSD.

your bios directs the pc on boot up to a primary drive - in your case it is the one you have installed..So unplug the wires from that and plug them into the SSD

then plug the rest in - either way once you load up windows via USB you can chose a primary drive and going into advance or settings you can format all drives

make sure you install the SSD into a the 6bg slots on your mother board or you won't get the benefit of the SSD ( all hd's if possible and optical in the others )

via bios ( F12 or 9 depends on your mother board but it will tell you on boot up how to get into bios ) - select boot from USB ( once Hd's are installed and connected )

if i do a clean install i format all of them - then partition your SSD and set as primary drive and load windows on to that ..Then load files ( PORN ) via USB back onto your storage drives ie: the 3.5"

NOTE: I am a bit of a NOOB myself and someone might have better advise - but that is how i would do it

why not image it, instal your new drive and use disc management to format it then install the image to that drive, change the bios to boot from the new one and both discs have the same stuff on. you can then change files etc over or keep it as a backup drive if the new one fails. i used acronis to do my m.2 sata ssd's on my mobo. worked a treat.
