New SSD - Steam saves

Hope this is a simple question. Just installed a new SSD to act as my boot drive. My old HDD is full of my partially completed games. If I install Steam on the new SSD and then install a game I'm part way through, will it pick up the saves I've already made? I'm enjoying FO4, but not enough to replay 60+ hours!

It depends on if the game in question supports steam cloud.

If it does, then the save will be downloaded with the game, but if it doesn't then you'll have to retrieve the save from the old HDD.

You can check the store page for each game to find out if it does support steam cloud or not.

Save games are stored in a load of different locations depending on the game. Some in appdata, some in my documents, in the game folder, in the cloud.

I hope you haven't formatted your old windows install cause fallout games save to my documents.

If you can still boot into your old install, i recommend running game save manager which will has a massive database of game save locations and will back them all up to a folder. Then you can restore them on your fresh install and everything will run as before.

FO4 is in the my docs/my games folder. However as said you need to check each game and back them up manually. Really annoying that every game doesn't use the same folder.

Fallout 4 picked up my previous saved games. Had to reinstall the mods though - how can you play this wothout the full dialog mod? I can live with everything else. Thanks for the responses
