Guest Passes
Guest Passes allow owners of certain Steam games (purchased either via Steam or at retail) to let their friends play games for free, for a limited time trial. The first game to take advantage of this new feature will be Day of Defeat: Source. Beginning the week of January 8th, owners of DoD:S will each receive a guest pass to give to a friend. So if you own Day of Defeat: Source, watch your games list for your guest pass to appear, and then send it to a friend.

Background client updates
Since the Steam client was first released, it has always kept itself up to date -- but now it'll do so without making you wait during startup. Instead, it will acquire new updates in the background and then (once they're downloaded) ask if you'd like to restart & apply them. Steam will also let you know what's new whenever a new update is ready to apply.

Games list Favorites
Steam's catalog of games has grown quite a bit over the past year or so. If you're like most Steam users, the list of games you own has grown pretty long. Time to organize! Soon you'll be able to try out the new Favorites feature in the My Games tab of Steam. Once you've selected a game as a Favorite, it's available for quick access at the top of your list. If you wish, you can also collapse the Installed and Uninstalled sections, leaving only your Favorites in view.

New look
Steam's getting a new coat of paint. We've stripped away all the non-essentials and created a new streamlined appearance, and it'll be available in five different colors.

Nice. looks better than current version

p/ss Is it me or has anyone else noticed how steam seems to preload games that you have not bought and probably not buy? The cynic in me thinks they deliberately do that in order to entice you to buy. I seem to have Half Life 1 Source preloaded (and no no one else has access to my machine as its password protected)

Wish they would sort network issues, Steams a piece of crap doesn't like many network setups, not only that they should get a whole new tech support team and a phone number to call. Sick of emailing them and waiting 2 weeks for the obvious "its your firewall" how can it be I don't even have one.

This happens when you download enough game content to own that game as well.. eg if you have HLDM:Source it uses the content from HL:source so sticks it on the list of games that count as preloaded.

tbh it sounds like the network issue is on your side. Never had any issues with it...

As far as networks go, mine is horrible, but Steam works. Steam works for all my friends too.

Nowt wrong with it.

Most complaints I hear end up being peoples configurations causing problems, not Steam.

Bout time STEAM got a new look, its really big now with lots of games, but it still looks like that peice of crap we had to buy to play counterstrike back in the day.

anything that improves steam is a good think because at the moment its a pile of crap.
LOL - it is not that bad. In fact I think it is quite good. I like the fact I can have most of the games I play in one place and have them auto update. The software runs well and never crashes.

Not sure what some people expect out of Steam, a lot of people are quick to call it, lets see you come up with something better.

I think steam is great. I never have problems with it. Certainly an improvement over WON. Searching the net to find slow mirrors for patches started to get old.

Speaking of gmod, anyone fancy showing me some decent things to build?

Look for my server called "OcUK Construct-a-Thon" I'll password it aswell so idiots dont come in and mess it up "barnygumble".

Steam UI looks a bit bland and rubbish now.

mm, I quite like the Ice look, looks very simple and nice, tho a tad too bright. Now I need someone to send me a free trial of DOD source :p

They deffinetly need to do something about the writing, it blends with the backround too much. But overall I like the new skins. Can we expect a complete website and STEAM frontpage overhaul? (because it still looks like the old style, you know?)
