So want/need a new Stereo for my Focus, I neeed that USB port ! From what I can tell I can install a double din player (do I really need a fascia for these ?), but my main concern is the steering wheel controls, I would like to maintain their functionality.

Do any Stereo's come with working wheel controls off the bat, or do you always need to buy those cable's to get it to work ?

You'll need one of the wiring harnesses for it. They usually come with a little box that the original steering wheel control wire plugs in to (was like that on my MK1 Focus - 3 plugs, 1 was power, 1 was the speakers and 1 was steering controls). You then have a patch cable from said box that connects into the back of the replacement head unit which of course varies by manufacturer so you need to buy the corresponding patch lead for the manufacturer.

No stereo will have a socket for the Focus wheel controls built in unless you get one of the chinese made things that are specifically designed for the Focus.

Just as examples, something like these:

That lot should do fine. I think you'll need an aerial adapter too though for ISO to DIN. Usually only a couple of quid if that, such as this one:

Needed one of these on my old Focus (admittedly an MK1) but also the wife's 09 S-Max so you'll most likely need one too. I'd grab one just in case.

^ Thats an Eonon D5161 or 62, it's about £250 & I've got one in the Mondeo. Lots of functionality (satnav, BT, IPOD etc) but the sound quality isn't really designed for those who like to play it loud and feel the music, however I find it OK with an Ipod loaded with Rock/Heavy Metal etc.

Oops yeah almost forgot that, the stereo I got on my MK1 came with one of these I think, but this Sony one doesn't appear to (cheapskates !). Right I think I'm good to go with ordering this lot, thanks for your help :)

Edit - Although I do see way more accessories for replacing a stereo going too, like 2 thick foam pads, mounting brackets for either side, people screwing this on to clip in nicely, surely I don't need all that ? At least I didn't on my MK1 :S
