new sugo build

Hi guys long long time lurker first time poster, and i have to say you guys are really helpful :) So hopefully you can help me too.

Now that my finals are over i can take the plunge and by a new computer.

The spec I was thinking about is:
sugo evo,
GA G33M DS2R,
Crucial ballistix 5300,
2 * samsung 400gb in Raid 1 ,
E6600,
OcUK 8800GTS 320,
NT06,
Corsair or Silverstone PSU (one is modular one is short cable which ones better?!),
and the quietest dvd burner that is compatible with the coolmaster facia kit (they sell it on their site so dont think i can link but its basically a piece of aliminium that sticks onto your dvd burner i saw it on a sugo somewhere...), suggestions are aprreciated!
Oh and the samsung 206bw monitor.

I think thats pretty much everything, this is really at the top of my budget so please dont suggest any expensive changes ;). I would also like to run vista 64bit and slip a wireless card in there too! Is the NT06 good enough to modestly overclock with even in summer - I am slightly worried by this as i've never overclocked before.
 
Corsair is definitly the best make of power supply. The 520W would be fine, or you could get the 620W version for future-proofing.

I'd stretch to the 620MB GTS, as the 320MB one is going to struggle on that monitor at high detail settings.

And that motherboard will be fine as long as the memory is good, afraid I don't know a lot on that front, although I remember Ballistix had a high failure rate, not sure if that's changed?

The F-I90HD has a 1:1 memory divider, however it's not as strong an overclocker as the Gigabyte one.

I remember this from a while back, cant say ive kept up on memory recently tho so things may of changed.

Deffo get a modular psu ,the 320mb card will struggle @ 1680x1050 so as said above worth getting the 640mb if u can stretch your budget.
Im not sold on the NT06, a lot of people rate them tho, ideal if your going for silent/low noise build not sure how well it'd do for overclocking tho.

Thought about the 640 version but I really can't afford it, its another £50 and i have already talked myself up from a 1950pro (i think that would be worse even with the 512 RAM right).

Will be going with the cosair psu then, cheers for the reassurence on that front.

Anyone know about the Cooler Master bezel (think there are no compettetors on this link) I dont think it would be compatible with the samsung burners because of their round button but it seems sensible to go sata.

My Corsair 620 with Samsung SATA DVDRW drive leaves me a good 3 inches gap. Not much of a "squeeze"? :confused:
 
heatsink issues

Hey guys,

Well everything arrived today and i am starting the assembly. One small problem, the backplate for the nt06 seems to have to sit over some pins which are stopping it from lying flush with the board, is this ok? did anyone else have this problem? I dont really want to try clipping the pins unless i have to. This is my first ever build and i am not that confident!

should have seen this earlier - think you will find this is an issue with the board/cpu cooler combination, seen several reports on ******* forums
 
Hey guys,

Have left the heatsink with the backplate causing a slight bend of the board if the contact isn't good enough i will try something else.

Well its progressing rather slowly! I will follow up with pics sunday when i can get my hands on a camera, although atm its looking rather rubbish. My cable routing skills are having a baptism of fire. Just a quick question. The sugo's case fan has 3 pins but the mother board has 4 I think the extra one is either a sensor or a speed controll. At the moment i think the 3 pins the sugo is connected to are the ground power and sensor is that ok?
 
hard drive issue

I have been trying to set up raid but am having an issue getting the drives to be recognised at all. When i tried the hard drives in a friends computer they worked immediately and were recognised.

However when i put them in they don't spin at all nor are they recognised by the motherboard. I have tried swapping the power cables round and the like and am out of ideas. If anyone can think of something i might be doing wrong i would greatly appreciate it!

I am now fairly sure it is a power issue. If i use the panel that came with the motherboard to externalise some of the sata cables i can plug in a normal 4 pin power cable and then from the panel run a cable which converts the 4 pin to a sata power cable. With this installed the drive spins up and is recognised.

So why arent the power cables that come with the power supply working?!!? (i have tried both sata connector cables the supply came with and my friend who has the exact same supply also tried one of his cables and none have worked) Can anyone figure out whats wrong?

I am using a corsair 520w power supply (it is a tiny bit of a tight fit but then so was everything else! I have a new found respect for all you guys who manage to make such neat builds in such a tight space).

Any advice will be much appreciated.
 
Ok having tried the disk with the same cable on my friends psu it worked perfectly. I guess this means there is a problem with my 3.3v rail. I can't see how any of the other components can be causing this (such as the motherboard) so i guess its return time. :mad:
