Not a great gamer so a mid level graphics card is fine by me...

Seems to be crunching very nicely - since 4th June when it was started it has been credited 4946 units - so that million mark will not be long now....

Also I have spent £35 to offset the CO2 output of the machine for its life time

Not sure how to do that, want to but I don't want to fry my baby - am alittle worried that Core Temp is showing all 4 cores operating at 70C - is that normal for cores fulltime crunching?

Just air! 2 fans - one front of case one back of case plus the fan in the PSU - is Core temp accurate as putting my hand over the back vent I can't feel any great heat at all!

Yeah - 70C is way high for an @stock system and I certainly wouldn't overclock with temps that high. The biggest causes of that are either a problem with the installation or using the Intel cooler and fan speed control solution (which tends to prefer quiet to cool).

Even a half decent cooler should get you down to 50-ish. :)

can you suggest a solution - do I add a side vent fan - the case will take it - do I need to up the fan speed on the CPU cooler? If so as it is an Asus board can the fan speed be increased?

It's either not seated properly or the fans aren't fast enough. I personally wouldn't be folding on it for the moment if it was that hot. Get a decent cooler on it the stock one is rubbish.

I founf Asus PC Probe II and it reports temperatures of the CPU at 60C and the Motherboard at 43C under full load left on over the weekend.....

What client(s) are you running? That PC should be giving that many points every couple of days with the SMP client. I'm assuming you mean points rather than units.

If it is ~100oWUs a day that would explain the high temps at least. :D

OP: You're unlikely to damage the chip overclocking it provided you leave the voltage alone.
The operating system is another matter of course...
