What are your opinions on this combo?

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E2140 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.60GHz (800FSB) - Retail
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) - 4-4-4-12

I'm getting this heatsink to cool it :

Asus Silent Square Pro CPU Cooler

The rest of the kit I'm looking to get is here:

I'm upgrading from a P4 2.4 GHz and a 19"inch old CRT. It's been a while. I'm hoping to see a noticeable difference ;)

Also, I'm in no rush to upgrade, do you recommend I wait until the new year??

Thanks for any advice given.

If you're gaming then the ATI X1950 Pro would be a better choice than the 8600GTS. Or spend another £15 and get an ATI HD 3850 Pro for far better performance.

No probs.

I would also consider an extra fiver for an E2160. It's extra multiplier will help loads when overclocking.

Other than the graphics card and the CPU, everything pretty spot-on :)
