It been a long time since i last build a system and i've lost touch abit.

I have about 200.00 quid to spend on an upgrade and i was after some recommendations of what i should go for. Basically it does not have to be the fastest machine in the world, but i want to move up to a 64bit processor.

I need a -

Processor
Memory
Motherboard
Graphics Card

Not sure that i can get for my money but any recommendations would be a great help.

Cheers

Your going to be stuck with AM2 I think for that price (You might even stuggle to get that though) You could get one of those ASRock boards which allow you to use standard DDR RAM with a C2D system which could save you a fair bit of money but I really would suggest trying to get a bit of extra cash together or saving up for a bit and getting something in a few months time which will be more worthwhile :)

EDIT: Could get something like this which would get you onto the 64-bit platform. Whack in an X1950 Pro at a later date and it shouldn't be too bad for gaming, but without an add-on graphics card, gaming is a no go on that system unfortunatley, as it is on that budget really :(

Thats fair enough but:

CPU: From £60 (single core)
Motherboard: From £46
Memory: From £58 (1GB)
Graphics card: From £30

That would just about cover you, but these components are basically the cheapest option from OcUK. It would more than likely be a Intel P4 or a AMD 64 single core, the memory and motherboard aren't too bad but the graphics card wouldn't contribute to "the fastest machine in the world".

It wouldn't provide much power at all I don't think, these components hit the market around 2-3 years ago so they don't provide you with state of the art technology etc.

I think with £200, you will struggle to meet what you actually want. Like others have said perhaps you should wait another £200 and you could get a dual core system or even upgrade RAM, graphics card for more power :)
