I have just put together my new system, a P9X79 Pro, 3930k and 16GB of DDR3 2133.

When I turn on the system, I just get a black screen on POST and when I press del to go into BIOS, its similar when you change resolution, it's almost like the system can't display the BIOS and POST.

However, when POST is over the system seems to work, it picks up the old installation of Windows on my HDD. In addition when I do a mem test that displays and when I first powered on, the new CPU message displayed.

I am using a GDM-FW900 via VGA and a Hazro HZ27WC via DVI.

i had the same once when i tried go into bios on a tv
i didnt know how to fix it either^^
not helpful i know sry!

Someone correct me if I am wrong but you need a graphics card to access the BIOS with Ivy processors as the onboard graphics is turned off by default.

I have tried two different graphics cards, two different pci-e slots, run the memory in different configurations and used two different monitors.

This is Sandy Bridge, no onboard graphics.

I have now updated the BIOS to the latest version, which has not helped, in fact it now doesn't try to boot into the old version of Windows. One thing to note though, when I updated the BIOS from ROM to CAP the update progress displayed.

Is the OS an OEM OS?

OEM OS's can only be installed on the same PC and it works this out by the motherboard. Since its a new rig the OS will not work if it OEM. If you have a retail OS then just re-install.

The OS is irrelevant, the POST and BIOS not displaying anything on the screen is the issue. Also I am not able to install Windows, as I can't see anything on the BIOS. In addition I do not want to install windows without making sure everything is ok in the BIOS first.

Oh ok so you can't even make it to the BIOS? :/

Hmmm, only thing I can think of would be the PSU, motherboard or CPU.

I solved the problem, it was an issue with the UEFI BIOS and with both of my monitors, when I connected a more standard monitor it worked.
