Hi,

I've been looking at replacing my current system and done a few possible specs now, I think I have finally come up with a spec I'd like to go with but wanted to get some feedback on what I think is a pretty good spec before I order the parts.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.66GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor - Retail
  • Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)
  • Asus Rampage Formula Intel X48 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
  • Asus ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail
  • Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x2GB) Supplied with Airflow Fan (TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF)
  • Enermax Galaxy 1000W EGX1000EWL ATX2.2 Modular PSU
  • Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103UJ)
  • Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Professional Series 7.1 Sound Card - Retail
  • LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray Reader & HD-DVD ROM Serial ATA Drive - Retail
  • Lian Li PC-A71B Aluminium Tower Case - Black

I've already got Vista Ultimate Retail which I plan to move to this new system.

It will mainly be used for gaming and watching bluray movies, but was looking for something thats going to run my games in full glory with some room for future upgrades (second gfx card, additional HDD's, etc).

Looks pretty solid to me, could possibly change ram to 6400 as you would have to overclock to CPU past 3.6GHz to see any benifit from the ones you have there.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback, I've based this off a slightly cut down version of the "Ultima Rampage OC HD 3870 X2 Crossfire".

For the time being I can only afford to put the 1 GFX card in and didn't want to go for the Extreme CPU.

I'm looking to build something thats going to run cool and fairly silent, my current system seems to pump out a lot of heat and it quite loud with all the fans running.

Hi,

My other option would be to just repalce the MOBO and GFX card in my current system and add more memory.

I have a Asus P5K3 Deluxe in my system currently with 2GB DDR3 RAM, I had tried to add more ram but the system failed to boot at all with 4 sticks in even after following the guide on the OCZ forums.

Leaning towards the MOBO maybe having a duff slot possably.

Thinking maybe:

Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6 Intel X48 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

2 x Corsair 2GB DDR3 DHX 1333C9DHX Twin3X (2x1GB)

Asus ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

The RAM in the Asus board now is what came bundled with it when the board was first released, I had replaced all with OCZ RAM whcih ended up getting returned due to it not working.
