So like a dimwit I order some new parts today and forget to add on the cpu cooler. doh! (When did retail cpus stop coming with heatsinks) Anyway I'm looking for a good all round cooler for a nice shiny i7 5280K

I have brought the Gigabyte X99-SLI mobo bundle and need something that will go with this style wise but also give me decent temps and low noise.

So over to you guys let me know. Not looking to spend crazy money and overclocking isn't really going to be done.

It will be going in an old school Coolermaster Stacker ATX/BTX Full tower.

I do have 2x5 bay icy docks (hot swap racks) in this case at the minute.

I will have a set of the TeamGroup Elite 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C16 2400MHz Quad Channel Kit (from TWO)

As said budget isn't going to be crazy but I would expect around that £50 - £100 mark unless there is a reason to go over that.

Never had water cooling and if there is a reason to go for it then I am open to the idea but not sure I am ready to invest serious money into that at the minute.

Personally I'd be looking at the BeQuiet! Dark Rock series as one of these should meet all your requirements in terms of aesthetics, performance and low noise. I know you say that you're not planning on overclocking but as you're buying an overclockable chip it would make sense to have a cooler in place should you decide to take advantage of the free performance on tap and the BeQuiet Dark Rock series (especially the Pro 3) would cater for all your needs whether stock or overclocked.

It's a 6 core cpu if you want high end air overclocks get the noctua nh d15.
Or source the cheaper but still good noctua nh d14 or get the be quiet.
A good heatsink will last you 5 generations of cpu.

I went with the Dark Rock 3 Pro in the end. Unfortunately on back order at the minute so it is currently killing me having most of my brand new machine which I can't build until I have this. :( oh well, time to get my other machines prepared for transfer to this new one.

NH-D14 and NH-D15 with same fans have same cooling ability. :D

Finally got my Dark Rock Pro 3 today and omg this thing is damn near silent ;D

Thankfully it wasn't too painful to install considering I have enough clearance to tighten the nuts with the memory out and then put them in place. With the lack of room around the cpu area Be Quiet really should provide an angled spanner or alternative way to lock this thing in place.

So far so good according to the gigabyte software my cpu is running at a positively toasty 26C.

I wanted the dark rock pro 3, but needed 165mm clearance, my corsair 200r case only 160mm :(

I guess the advantage of having an old Coolermaster case has come in handy for something (even if it means I can't do a decent cable management job in it) .

I am still so impressed with this thing. Yes it is massive but it is a thing of beauty.

It has taken me the best part of three evenings to get my new machine all setup but now that it is I see where my offending noise is coming from (damn you icydocks :shaking fists:) So something is going to have to be done about that.
