Hey all im new to the fourms, ive been looking around and found loads of great stuff here.

bassicaly im looking to build a new system to replace my current Q6600 set up.

i have a budget of around 800-1200.

ive picked out a rough build and not sure on a few issues

heres the build:

Issues:

Will the Notua be okay with the RAM hight wise as i know it can over hang the DIMMS?

Graphics card any good?, I want it to last at least a couple of years and still be powerfull enough.

Is the power supply
A: powerfull enough for my build
B: of high enough quailty to last.

lastly the case, I liked the blacked 600t but i hear the fans are improved on this and it comes with the window as standard so that swung it for me do you think i will have enough room for all my build(particuly the Noctua) and still acheive decent air flow?

Thanks in advance

I would stick a 850w PSU in it if you wanted SLI.

Get some Corsair XMS3 ram to clear the heatsink.

The HDD isnt the fastest, a Samsung F3 or Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 is faster and cheaper.

thanks for the response,

I may be tempted to add a second GPU in a year or 2 if i feel i need a boost in performance.
do you think this PSU would be up to job? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-028-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=

The Ram you suggested is only DDR3 Dual-Channel - PC3-12800, where as the board is capable of DDR3 Dual-Channel - PC3-14400, would it not make sense to get the fastest speed possible to increase the lifespan of this system?

I dont understand your hard drive point how is a Barracuda faster? its only 32MB cache, where as the WD caviar is 64MB thats the only difference i can see in the SATA 6GB department, unless im mising something?

1. It will work, but if you're planning to do some extreme OC,then not sure(I would go with more W).
-2x GTX570 have 30% more performance than single GTX580.

For 850w better go with XFX PSU -http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-000-XF&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1497

2. No - The difference between 12800 and 14400 is only like 1-2%.

3. Barracuda is fine, but personally I would not recommend it. My friend had four WDs Caviars and all of them after few weeks went to kiss the bin. Go for Samsung F3 1TB that I strongly recommend, before they disappear.

4. Leave MSI, for smaller price you can get slightly better Asrock P67 Extreme 6 which is very nice motherboard.

5. Noctua will be fine with your G.Skill Ripjaws

6. Why not i5 2500k? Cheaper with the same performance in games.

thanks for all your help:)

very usefull info in there.

I went for the i7 simply becuase i want the system to last as long as possible maybe 2-3 years like my current Q6600 machine has done(built for £400).

im not looking for the best performing products more the most stable and the ones with the best life span. I read a lot of gd things on the forums about the MSI GD65 so it was my orignal consideration, but I thought why not go a model higher model(GD80 and get compatability with higher speeds of ram, also the inclusion of extra USB3.0s for future compatablilty.

thats gd news about the ripjaws:)

the samsung f3 1tb appear to have gone? are they 6gb/s ?
i would rather have a gold certified PSU then a silver one though.

So what? It's always nice to see how the product looks before buying. Don't like it? Don't watch. Maybe he will find them useful.

The only better thing Corsair PSU have, is that you can unplug 24-pin connector and I can't see point in that - except easier cable management when installing.

You can see what the product looks like in a FULL REVIEW:D

7 year warranty too.

Though he doesn't mention in his post that it needs to be a pretty princess.

Personally recommend the XFX 850W BE, solid PSU with very tight ratings. Hasn't failed me yet. :)

i found both the video and the reviews helpfull:)

Ive decided to go with the XFX for now, (my mind may change again when i come to ordering).

Oh i see and having researched the difference between 6GB/s and 3GB/s its marginal so i will stick with the samsung spinpoints F3.
i have looked into a SSD but i dont think it is worth it just yet as i could only afford enough to space to run the OS and a few choice apps, but its nice to have the ability to upgrade in the future.

Just about the PSU(850w)
Do you think I will have enough here to run 2X 580's at some point?
or will that be beyond its limits? there power consumption is up near 350 each I think.

I will put together a second draft and post back my findings :), were getting there one step at a time :)
thanks

Seagate barracudas are a little faster than F3's, seen a few reviews showing this, and as you can normally find a Seagate barracuda at a few £ less it makes a better choice.

you can ignore the gimmicky 6GB/S feature on a HDD as they cant even saturate a 3GB/S interface.

So this is where im at right now.

I know the DVD-RW is a cheap piece of tat but who really uses them that nowerdays, ive burnt one disk in the last year that I can remember.

only other thing i can think is maybe 8GB RAM as its marginal in cost (£40 more).

maybe I should go against my nature and get a ATI card, they seem to require far less power leaving me room for future SLI/Crossfire?

nice pick on that RAM,

Thing is I dont think i will be making my purchase for at least a month from now (after my exams) so im sure my mind will change a lot between now and then, Im just getting an idea about what is out there.

ive just had another thought I will be placing this PC down the side of my desk (no room on desk with tv, monitor and PS3). Will it be okay to place directly on the carpet as its quite new and still very deep, or should i get some form of raising method i.e. trolley on wheels?

I could place a few blocks of wood under the feet to raise it up 5 inches or so?
